I've managed to get gap insurance and 2 years warranty and I think i can haggle more tomorrow the price seems fair compared to say 4/5 months ago for used cars , now the issue is I've had an AUdi A3 sline 2.0 tdi black edition since 2014 almost 9.5 years which is a long time, my main concern is I am a IT contractor so I can move around albeit most of my gigs are in London and I can drive down the M-1 20 miles each way, I will not know if i get hybrid or wfh or working every day in London, But realistically speaking should I really get this , I drove a 2018 A4 1450hp tfsi 3.5 black edition and it was great too this is of course a whole other beast.

I am not a petrol head, I like cars but I don't have a commute car I can rely upon I could in theory get one, but I am not the type of guy that goes out on weekend just for a drive to enjoy driving, The car is sick I did test drive it and this being England part of me thinks whats the point I'm basically paying a lot more for a quick burst and sound and in what potholes and speed restrictions and so on, I fear the real cost the low mpg and insurance and tax and repairs if I keep beyond a certain mileage, will just make me feel sad, I've gone through a clutch, chain, sprints, alternator and some weird repair early on with my A3 and other things too of course over the 10 years and esp the last 3 years but what does one do, should I just stick to a lesser powered car ?

I even rang a guy locally who's selling his S5 2018 28k mileage full spec for 27.5k and he came across as a petrol head but needs to put his kids first, I've never been the type to want to show off either but there is a little ego and say interest in getting a speced car, I ain't rich by no means and I can just PCP for now and pay of in chunks within the year to reduce any APR interest as it's stand at 12.9 percent of something crazy.
My G/f liked the A4 black edition and I too but it's really only my cousin whos pressing me to get something fast even though he's a tight *** himself and always buys cheap.

Now i guess this is the wrong place to ask as you're all hardcore ?

Personally I think you've answered your own questions ...

if your not a petrol head and your worried about MPG and Servicing costs I'm guessing an S4 isnt the ideal choice :D

Saying that I have zero concept of the MPG a S4 makes, I have an Avant Quattro 190 TDI and it gets amazing MPG when on our travels around the country loaded up with kids and kit ... doesnt stop me dreaming about pulling the trigger on an S4/RS4 one day! :D

I used to have a B8 S4 which had the supercharged V6 3.0 predcessor to this engine; mpg could range from low 20s to mid 30s, but the lfie time average over six years and fifty thousand miles was around 27mpg. I now have an SQ5 which has the same turbo-charged engine as the S4 you're contemplating. The SQ5 is heavier that the corresponding S4, but otherwise mechnacially identical. So far, over fifteen thousand miles in two years, I'm getting virtually the same figures as I got with e supercharged S4. low 20s to mid 30s, with a long-term average of 27.

I have a 22 SQ5 and my fuel consumption ranges from low 20's to mid 40's and my long term average, after 16.5K miles is 35mpg. It was a bit higher until wife started using it for towing a horse trailer

If it’s a 22 model, won’t it be a diesel? If so, no point of comparison with a petrol.

Good point. Hadn't realised that the version of SQ5 you have is the petrol one as the diesel is also turbo-charged.

If it’s the mpg for the diesel S4 you’re after, the last 20,000 miles I’ve averaged 39.7mpg, best long journey was 52mpg but 45mpg is easily possible if you drive to the cars strengths. Oddly, getting up to speed quickly and using the coast where you can gets the highest numbers
