Hi,
not been here for a while!

The rear coil springs on my Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDI Le Mans need replacing (one went bang!). I was intending to replace them with the OEMs but they are impossible to get on back order at the moment, there are none in the country I'm being told! It's now been 4 weeks since a request went in to Audi parts for a set but they still don't have any or know when any will become available.

1) Does anyone know where I might be able to source OEMs from?

2) Can anyone recommend an alternative brand that I could use?

Thanks in advance
JD

KYB, Eibach, Meyle, these are all good makes. If this is your daily driver you're kind of over a barrel, but if you can afford to wait, then you have that option too. If you're fitting rear springs, check the shock bump stops and the spring seat and lower suspension bolt while you're at it, given this is labour intensive.

There should be colour dots on the spring, this is critical for ride height differentiating from standard and sport suspension, etc. I tend to order from Autodoc, but you could wait 2 weeks even from them. If you have genuine part number - try TPS, as they supply Audi.

Note: part will be unique to the VIN, etc.

Thank you.

To be honest I rarely drive these days but when I do it tends to be long distances to visit friends and family. The spring went about 5 weeks ago and I haven't really needed to use the car once. That said I was hoping to get it sorted for xmas as I need to use it for a couple of trips.

Frustratingly Audi won't give out the part number, is there another way to find it?

Thanks for that link, I'll peruse and pursue.

You want to change your dealer Jonny, that's atrocious. You're the customer. That's fine if Audi have the part in stock but a month later with no update is hardly amicable.

Speak to Jim at Aberdeen Audi, ask for him by name at Aberdeen Audi (01224 400500) quote your VIN and he will furnish you with the details you require.

Thanks. I'm using an independent garage local to me in North London (rather than an Audi delaer) and I suspect that's the reason they won't give out the information (although I still find that disappointing given they can't supply the part). However I've managed to get hold of the info I need from another forum. Thanks again.

Hi all,

I'm reusing this thread rather than starting a new one. Thanks to the OP!

My rear springs need replaced. 2009 3.0TDI Quattro Avant Le Mans. The indy garage I use reckons the rear springs might be specific to the Le Mans spec and can only be had from the dealer at £170 a corner.

The S-line rear springs are £47.50 a side from Autodoc for Bilsteins. Does anyone know if these will do the same job or is the rear end of the Le Mans somehow different - stiffer maybe? Mine is goddam stiff which is not great on the ***** rural roads we have where I live.

By the way, the correct part number is 4FO 511 115 CM. Hope that helps someone else!

TIA,

Al

From Google AI

The part number 4F0511115CM corresponds to an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) rear coil spring for an Audi vehicle, likely models within the Audi A6 (C6) generation (2004-2011) or similar models using the "4F0" chassis code.

Key details:
  • Part Type: Coil spring.
  • Fitting Position: Rear Axle.
  • Manufacturer: Genuine Audi part.

The last two characters ("CM") in the part number are typically a "spring code" used by Audi to specify the exact spring rate and dimensions needed for specific vehicle configurations (e.g., to account for different engines, suspensions, and equipment levels).

I can't find a spring anywhere with the right 'CM' at the end. Closest I've seen is a 'CK'.
