Facelift Which oil for 35 TFSI 1.5T 68 plate petrol? (0w-20 or 0w-30)

Hi,

Car is due for oil change next month but got the oil level low warning light yesterday (checked with dipstick and it’s on the minimum) so I was just going to buy some and top it off to see me through but some places say it’s 0w-20 and some 0w-30, tried ringing Audi to find out what they’d put in mine last year but they’re closed today and got a long drive this evening so wanted to do it before.

Will it make much difference which I use and would it be fine mixing them if I use a different one to what’s in it currently?

if in doubt always go for the thicker version in your case 0w30... both are fully synthetic and just topping up with the thicker version won't cause a problem. never top up with the thinner 0w20 unless you know that is what it was filled with for sure. But dealers like to use the cheaper oil 0w30 as it means less costs and more profit for them.

I run a 19 plate 35tfsi, so same model as yours. Soon after buying it I went to buy a 1L bottle for topping up from my Audi dealer. They wanted to supply 0-30 which I questioned and walked away. I sourced the 0-20 from the VW dealer next door who looked up my car and conformed 0-20 was the correct oil.
I have since had two main dealer services and one specialist independent dealer service. All have used 0-20.

Cheers guy, hmm what to do. I hope it’s got 0w-20 in but wouldn’t shock me if it hasn’t, dealers are cheapskates.

Why can’t you add 0w-20 if it’s got 0w-30 in out of interest?

no mixing thicker oils with a thinner oil causes foaming... yet the other way around is safe..

You heard it already it doesn't really like mixing but it didn't cause a problem because both are fully synthetic.. just remember to not do it again.. choose a certain type of oil and stick with it.
