Good evening all,

I recently got a 2006 sportback and it came with three keys - one brand new and fully functional, two old worn ones which work in the doors and ignition, but aren't paired to the immobiliser or the comfort module, and refuse to pair (with obd11, or manually) to even unlock the doors remotely.

What is the best way to get at least one working spare key? I guess to start with, I need to buy a new key online, and replace the blade with one of the spares.

I have read that the immobiliser chips can only be programmed once, but can be re paired if it's already been programmed to that same car in the past. Is this true? Would it be possible/cheaper than a whole new setup if I get a locksmith to re register?

I have checked with obd11 and there's only one key registered.

Any advice much appreciated.

You might want to grab some1 with unlimited vcds genuine and see if they can get 1 off opld keys to pair . But sounds to me like it could be a new cluster put into car cause i can't work out why 1 key does all and 2 do nothing

Cheers for the reply - my current working theory based on reading threads here:

I believe to register a new key in the immo, you need to clear all current keys. As the working key is literally brand new, not a mark on it, I assume the dealer I bought it from had a new key made and didn't get the tech to re-register the old ones. Would this make sense with your experience?

Sorry I didn't hit reply on my previous message so I'm not sure if you'll be notified - apologies to double post.

I just find it strange that a dealer would make 1 new key rather than 2 as he could have and easily disposed off the other 2 u have rather than do 1 and give u 2 useless keys. Dealer is the 1 to chat with
