Hi everyone,

I am looking to hardwire a reversing camera to my 2011 Audi A1 boot lid. I know how to roughly wire it up but not too sure about powering the 12V for the camera. Some people have said if i was to splice into the reverse bulb light then it can throw up CANBUS error... is this true? Another way to do it is wire tap it directly to any fuse box in the drivers/passenger side which has constant power on ignition. Will this drain the battery excessively as the camera will be powered on ignition all the time?

I have a CarPlay/ Android auto box that connects to the factory system and it has a working rear camera RCA jack which automatically switches when reverse is engaged so all good here. Just need to power the camera.

What is the best way to supply the camera with power?

Ideally use the reverse wire to a relay as the switching circuit & supply a separate 12v to the relay to switch the camera on as Audi's have a habit of lower than 12v momentarily to camera if direct of the reverse wire & this creates issues for the camera operation.

Use a ignition switched supply for the camera feed of the relay.

Thanks for the reply, would it be possibel for me to tap a 12V supply from fuse box and power the camera directly from that on ignition all thet ime (camera always powered). The system automatically senses and switches to reverse camera input when gear engaged so as long as there is power for the camera, im thinking it will work fine?

Ideally want to do it this was as it makes more sense in my head, not too sure about how to wire up the way you mentioned.
