Hi all thought I would post a thread for the stealth JL subwoofer install I did on my RS3 saloon FL 2018 (NON-B&O) for anyone who's disappointed on the standard audio! Even though the RS3 saloon does have a factory fitted subwoofer in the rear deck.

Before I start I am by no means a professional audio installer! I am an electrical engineer as trade, with OCD + passion for audio.

The standard subwoofer control works in the MMI also which is nice!

Wiring:
I started by tapping into the original factory subwoofer terminals under the fixed parcel shelf (plenty of videos on youtube how to get under this deck) 10-15 min job to get under there. This allows me to keep the MMI factory controls, I used this output signal to feed into the Rockford Forsgate amplifer as a “high level input”.

I then ran power both power (fused) and ground from the battery terminals into the cubby hole on the left. Into the amplifier and then split this same supply off the amplifier onto the LC2i.

On the LC2i I am using the GTO feature this picks up the sound signal from the MMI and turns off and on the LC2I this in turn runs a remote signal to the amplifier.

Additional not necessary : The cable that runs from the amplifier to the Subwoofer I have used EC5 connectors to remove the sub quickly for any reason.

Cutting:
I cut the standard foam under the rear deck to fit the JL micro sub and decided where I was going to mount the LC2I + amplifier. Had to raise it all 20mm so the boot floor would still sit on top with clearance and remove the grill on the JL microsub.

Miscellaneous:
Sound deadening installed under boot lining. + Velcro on top of foam and to boot floor to stop rattle/vibrations.

Parts used:
  • JL AUDIO CP108LG-W3V3 SUB 8" MICROSUB PORTED SUBWOOFER ENCLOSURE 250W RMS.
  • Rockford Fosgate punch PBR300x2 (wired in 4-ohm bridged)@300w
  • Audio control LC2i
  • 1 pack Vandalised Dead again sound proofing 10 SHEETS 200mm X 250mm X 1.8mm
  • Foam to lift original boot 20mm.
  • Sub and amp wiring kit.
Summary:
The top boot cover fits perfectly you would not know the sub was underneath retaining that factory look and most importantly storage is not compromised!, overall the sound is very impressive it was almost missing something before but this really does fill a gap on a small budget. I may look at upgrading the door speakers next with a 4 way amplifier but for now this will do the job.

Just be careful running things straight from the battery. The car does not know where the battery is draining to if you take the feed before the BCM. You are better taking feeds from after the BCM so it can account for the drain. Can throw errors.

Lots out there about audio installs on modern cars (esp VAG) causing problems when wired straight to the battery.

with the LC2i GTO feature it switches off the amp and itself after key removal from the ignition once the MMI drops out... as its a small 250w subwoofer which probably demands 120w-150w ... its been installed for 7 months with no VCDS or OBD11 errors :) ....but noted if i ever ramp up the power drain ! for the BCM.
