Hi all thought I would post a thread for the stealth JL subwoofer install I did on my RS3 saloon FL 2018 (NON-B&O) for anyone who's disappointed on the standard audio! Even though the RS3 saloon does have a factory fitted subwoofer in the rear deck.
Before I start I am by no means a professional audio installer! I am an electrical engineer as trade, with OCD + passion for audio.
The standard subwoofer control works in the MMI also which is nice!
Wiring:
I started by tapping into the original factory subwoofer terminals under the fixed parcel shelf (plenty of videos on youtube how to get under this deck) 10-15 min job to get under there. This allows me to keep the MMI factory controls, I used this output signal to feed into the Rockford Forsgate amplifer as a “high level input”.
I then ran power both power (fused) and ground from the battery terminals into the cubby hole on the left. Into the amplifier and then split this same supply off the amplifier onto the LC2i.
On the LC2i I am using the GTO feature this picks up the sound signal from the MMI and turns off and on the LC2I this in turn runs a remote signal to the amplifier.
Additional not necessary : The cable that runs from the amplifier to the Subwoofer I have used EC5 connectors to remove the sub quickly for any reason.
Cutting:
I cut the standard foam under the rear deck to fit the JL micro sub and decided where I was going to mount the LC2I + amplifier. Had to raise it all 20mm so the boot floor would still sit on top with clearance and remove the grill on the JL microsub.
Miscellaneous:
Sound deadening installed under boot lining. + Velcro on top of foam and to boot floor to stop rattle/vibrations.
Parts used:
The top boot cover fits perfectly you would not know the sub was underneath retaining that factory look and most importantly storage is not compromised!, overall the sound is very impressive it was almost missing something before but this really does fill a gap on a small budget. I may look at upgrading the door speakers next with a 4 way amplifier but for now this will do the job.
