Hi folks,

So the engine in my a4 has decided its had enough and started to knock loudly so I went and bought another.
The new one is 2008 vs 2007 of my old & uses the same ASB engine, however the old car was a manual, the new a Auto. (the new also seems to be fully loaded where as the old one is a bit poverty spec)
My old one seems a bunch quicker, much much boostier - which almost confirms my long held suspicion it has been remapped.
Both the ECU's are the same EDC16CP34 and share the same oe part number.
My question is could I transfer from my old to my new and no kill anything? Would it work with the auto gbox? Last thing I want to do is either pop the ECU or anything else.

Much thanks

Of course it can be done.

But in reality, with the length of time needed reprogramming and configuring old ECU to match all the options and modules on the new car, plus likely sorting the immobiliser too

Far easier and cheaper to simply pay someone to remap your new car and be done with it

Not even close to being worth it imo

Thanks. To be honest that was my thoughts.
I wondered how much interaction the main engine ecu had in with the other systems or if those other systems had their own separate ecu’s.

Yeh I wouldn't want to introduce an unknown variable into a working and driving car to be honest

Just get a reliable remap from a decent tuner and be done with it

I'm often guilty of trying to find the 'best' way to do things and try and miss otherwise one of costs etc. But sometimes it's really just best to pull the trigger and pay to have it done for you

I wouldn't be messing with ECU unless you really had to.

I'll give you an idea, for example. When my car was remapped it disabled my Cruise Control. That was a simple remap, not an ECU swap. It was an easy reactivation in the settings. But unless you do it regularly, there is absolutely going to be something that doesn't work and needs attention and will give you a headache you don't need

Just get the new one remapped :icon thumright:
