I am trying to pinpoint the source of a strange smell in my newly-bought audi allroad c8 (A6).
It smells like fish or something going bad, but I can't pinpoint the origin - it's really, really, strange.
We tried washing the whole upholstery professionally, changing the cabin/AC air filter, and although the smell got better (it started smelling less), the smell is still there.
I think the largest difference was made by leaving the car windows down overnight, with wind blowing trough it, and it kinda sorta got it out, but still, there she lingers still.
We tried even looking with an endoscope tool inside the car's vents, in order to see if there is anything dead inside, but - No. Nothing is there. Clean as a whistle. Yet she smells. And even tried crawling inside the car myself, smelling nose-deep every surface, from floor to roof - nothing smells by itself, but when left with windows up, a couple of hours in the sun - there it is.

I am running out of options, and the only thing I can think of doing is running an air conditioner cleaner.
There are two component types, though.

From what I gather, there is the aerosol "bomb" type, which you put the AC full blast on, closed circuit, windows up, and you crack a bottle, blowing the whole stuff inside the vehicle, driving the purifying smoke trough every air vent possible. According to an importer, and friend of mine, there is more sense in doing both that one, and another type, which you spray some kind of foam directly on the aircon radiator (or as he calls it "AC Evaporator") which is inside the vehicle.

I don't know where the evaporator is though, inside the dash, and how to reach it, without disassembling the whole dash, which is something I surely do not want.
Can anyone help with a common problem, evaporator location, or a good idea how to reach it with a flexible hose or smth?

Please, help me get the fish out of my nose :(

It needs a bacterial clean like a bomb, it's cheap enough from wurth although Audi use a better system, but try your luck.

Is it safe to use with all the leather? The videos I watched stated, that every leather surface should be covered before deploying a "bomb" aerosol cleaner solution, because it could hurt the leather.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
G.

The wurth bombs are harmless in all the cars I've used anyway, if it bothers you just clean them afterwards but never seen a seat issue afterwards.

Is this the one I should be searching for?

Does this one from Wurth have the latching system on the nozzle like the Comma bomb, where you put the CC on recirc, set it off, shut the doors and leave it to do its stuff?

Sadly, it's unavailable in Bulgaria, and it seems like it's a UK only product according to ebay...
