Radio woes.........

Now I've found loads of threads about this problem - poor/no radio reception, sometimes works when the boot is open,etc.

Mine has stopped working a few days after I purchased it wtf.
Nothing changes when I open the boot.
I read somewhere else that if you disconnected the coaxial cable and placed a wire touching the end, if you got a better reception then that cable is ok - and that the booster is probably knackered ? Well it went from massive interference to being able to hear people on the radio (still some interference)
So does this then suggest the booster/amplifier black box is knackered ?
Only seems to be ones available for sale abroad second hand.
Plenty of the other boxes (the RHS ones - what do they do ?)

I did inspect the wiring, pulling the rubber hose out at either end and inspecting as far as I could. Even untied the cloth tape as far as I could and looked back, nothing looked bent or kinked.

What are my options to getting the radio to work again ?!

Having spent 15 months in my TT with no working radio - I was delighted to find the radio worked in this

Get a meter & some wire, tone out the inner & outer cores end to end, although this isn't 100% fault free, but it will help to know if the cable is ok to a degree.

Then amp is next.

Ideally need diagnostics on there to see what the fault is, but your cable break may not be apparent visually as it breaks the strands internally through stretching on open & closing of the boot.

From another forum -

The back of the RNS-E radio has 2-fakra connections, one for the main antenna, one for the diversity antenna.

This goes under the trim, and in to the boot lid (via a dodgy flexible hose that breaks wires).

The main aerial has a white fakra connector going in to a left hand antenna/booster box (8HO 035 225 J). This box also has a curry coloured fakra plug (labelled 'Radio ZF'), and a black fakra connector which goes to the right hand side secondary antenna booster.

The right antenna booster (8HO 035 225 L) only has the black fakra connection which I believe connects box L to J.

I believe, but am not sure, that the curry connector goes to the unit with the diversity signal, and the RNS-E unit 'decides' which antenna to use.

The common faults are that a) they have a broken wire in the flexible bit or b) the boxes J or L break

Audi cabriolet radio electronics

Is anyone here an expert in Audi car radios, specifically the antennas for a A4 cabriolet (B6/B7) with RNS-E and diversity system? I know its a long shot, but I've posted on Audi Sport Audizine, Piston Heads and the VW Audi forum and, they seem far less knowledgeable/reactive than you guys...

Not sure what your point is, but as advised tbh, cause it's just a rinse repeat of your 1st post, no offense, just test the cable 1st.

The hose isn't dodgy & the cable is too tight thus open & closing stretches the strands & they snap internally.

So your saying get the Aeriel out the back of the radio to test it ?

Unplug yes & with meter, tone out continuity wise center to center& outer to outer end to end.
