A3 8Y 35 TFSI owner here, built on 08/2022, with LED front/back lights :) I've noticed a strange issue with my braking lights.
I was able to spot the issue looking at the reflection of my brakes on the car behind me, through my rear mirror.
So, sometimes, in traffic, when i release the brake pedal, the brake lights will come off (as expected) but then shortly come on again and then off, without my foot being on the brake pedal. It feels like i've touched the brake a 2nd time, which i haven't. There have also been times that this may even happen twice, when releasing the brake pedal (like touching the brakes 3 times).

I'm not sure why this is hapenning. I have tried releasing the brake pedal gently or suddenly (to check if it could be a brake spring bounce or sensor issue), which sometimes made a difference, but can't seem to notice any specific pattern. Sometimes it did help, sometimes it didn't. I have also tried disabling braking regen, which had no effect. Now, there are times that this whole thing doesn't happen, like when my car is parked (tried braking lights against a wall, and lights on/off when releasing the pedal was perfect).

Lastly, i need to mention that some fault codes have come up on OBD Eleven (shown below). However, i've seen those codes from very early on, like the very beginning, and since i had no problems with the brakes or any warning lights i didn't check them any further.

Fault codes:

Has anyone noticed anything similar or know what could be causing it ? Needless to say, i have no warning lights whatsoever, or any braking performance issues. Brakes work perfectly fine, it's just the lighting that's problematic after releasing the brake pedal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks :)

I also notice this on my rear brake light behaviour (reflection from a bus). Eg...if I stopped the car, engine goes off. Release pedal, brake lights go off, but will be lighted again for a split second, then off I go, and off the lights go. I need to try it with start stop off, to see if it makes a difference if and when the engine is running. I don't know the reason for this, but I can have a vague guess that first brake light goes off is car starting engine, 2nd brake light is hill hold disengage? Maybe someone who knows for sure can enlighten me.
I have a 30TFSI MHEV though.

Yeap, exactly as you described it. Your guess could be right, but it's very odd behaviour.

I had a look today but with the start stop disabled, so engine never goes off, and there isn't the double flash brake lights behaviour

Hmm, interesting. I did test it too, in Sport mode, which as far as i know doesn't let the engine go off. Not a single double-flash-brake-light either.

I guess it could be indeed due to the engine starting again.

Do you mean start with the round button or engine restarted from SS? Either way I didn't notice any dimming (or I wasn't paying attention). I have the bog standard LED headlights with halogen bulb indicators though. Doesn't seem to dip and raise (self-level) either, with no means to raise / lower headlight from the cabin. It's only the windows or maybe wipers that would pause when engine restarted from SS.
