Yet another central locking thread!

First time poster! Hello!

I'll cut to the chase. I had problems with the mirror and window controls, and found the wiring in the door loom was cracked, and was causing some dramas.

After repairing the wiring, I connected everything else up, pressed the fob, the car locked......and then never unlocked

So I can still manually access the car with the locks, The central locking still engages and disengages with the buttons inside the car.....nothing from the fobs. Batteries are good, I assume signals are good.....any pointers where I should look next? I don't have access to VCDS

Check the wiring in the whole door not just the hinge, but it could be a faulty lock, but ideally you need either a spare lock to confirm or diagnostics to play with.

Another common issue is the battery area gets clogged & water gets down under the carpet & damaged the convenience module which in turn causes locking issues.

Whole door loom has been taken out and inspected, no further damage.....I'll try a spare lock if I can find one. Sh*it outta luck with VCDS though,I'll just do what I can and then give a local garage a call.


One other thing I have noticed, is the key doesn't lock or unlock the door *physically*, IE, put the key in the barrel..

So that might be why I can't recode the keys. I'll pull that area apart, make sure the barrell is engaging the actual lock and see if I can get it moving from there. Cheers bud, I'll check the footwell area too

So the ignition barrel doesn't match the door lock barrel?

That's a bit strange.

Barrel difference isn't related to coding the keys except getting into the car to do any coding...

However what do you mean by "coding the keys" as you don't have vcds anyway so coding won't be possible.

I think you read between the lines.
The barrel matches. The tab that sticks out the back of the barrel, which Mates with the electronic lock/actuator, I suspect hasn't been reinstalled correctly. The key turns, but it doesn't lock/unlock. I can't feel any pressure so I assume the tab I mentioned hasn't been put back in the correct spot.

Only had this car for a fortnight so god knows what else has been done to try and fix this.

And when I said "recode" I meant resynchronize, as laid out in the owners manual

The barrel matches. The tab that sticks out the back of the barrel, which Mates with the electronic lock/actuator, I suspect hasn't been reinstalled correctly. The key turns, but it doesn't lock/unlock. I can't feel any pressure so I assume the tab I mentioned hasn't been put back in the correct spot.

And finally, the resynchronisation process laid out in the manual needs the key to be in the door lock. So if that isn't working as it should, then it wouldn't resynchronise.
Ive just got home from work so I'll pull the door card again and have another tinker. If I make any progress I'll report back

Update, I was right. Sort of. The key barrel has a splined section. Which feeds into another splined section. Which has a little doohickey on a spring which THEN goes into the lock module.


Yeah it was flapping in the breeze. Now to figure out where it actually goes

It sits in a hole in the corner of the lock top corner, it's a fun job when fitting new locks of which I've done a fair few.

Ideally undo the lock bolts, remove so you can see where the spring plastic bit sits when home, then refit the lock at an angle to catch the plastic end into the slot & then bolt lock in place, otherwise you'll be there all day.

Actually you can see where it sits, that white plastic round piece has a slot in it, that's where it goes.

Refitted it, everything has sprung back to life! ****** love an easy fix, I do!

I just wrassled the springy bit whist turning the key until I got it into place. Bit of a faff but didn't take long
