Looking at new alloys for my A3. The ones I like are available in 17" and 18", with the 17" being about £100 cheaper, and tyres being considerably cheaper also. Is 17" too small? Currently running 16" stock suspension.

17" are not too small.

Our 2006 A3 came originally with 17" that I use with winter tires. For summer setup, I use 18" BBS replica wheels.

Go for the 17's , Better ride quality, cheaper running costs, better acceleration and mpg.

18”s on mine, i definitely wouldn’t go any smaller to be honest, I think 18”s are a perfect mix of ride quality and looks, also tyres are cheap as there not very wide.

17s on mine. I think 18s look better, as long as the arch gap isn’t massive, but the tyre cost and ride comfort is more important than the looks on this model particular car.

if yours has 16s from factory, it’ll look like a monster truck on 18s. The se/technik ride height is higher than sport and sline models. Factor in getting the car lowered on eibachs

Mine has 17s from factory, sunk into the arches. I now run those in winter and have a set of 18s for the summer.

Ride quality is much better on 17s, but the trade off is not that bad really. I prefer the looks of the 18s of course, and the smaller stiffer sidewall makes for a better more responsive handling car overall.
