Can anyone ID this pipe/hose?

So I've been a lurker of this forum for years now, but this is my first post.

I've got a 2012 A3 8P Quattro (Engine code: CFGB). Had it for 6-7 years, absolutely love the car and it's generally been really reliable.

Last night on a journey home the red coolant light came off and I immediately turned the car off and pulled over. Coolant was dripping from the left hand side of the car.

I checked properly today with more daylight; it looks like a plastic pipe/hose on the left hand side of the engine (nearest cylinder 4) has popped off. I've scoured Google but I can't seem to ID the pipe to find out if it is indeed part of the cooling system (from my understanding most coolant hoses aren't made from this type of plastic).

Some photos of the hose are attached. Does anyone know which hose this is, and if it is indeed part of the cooling system?

Planning to take it to local mechanic early this week to have it fixed.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Cheers.

Pretty sure thats the vent from the bottom of the airbox given its location near to the fog lamp

Not as of yet. I put 2 and 2 together and came up with 6! I presumed the leak was coming the hose which I now know is actually part of the airbox.

It's going to the mechanics so they can diagnose it.

Yeah that pipe is as Darren states a vent from airbox, that's not a coolant hose that I know of on the 8P & I recognise it from cars I've worked on.

Check the rad corners as this is a common one on 8P's, refill & inspect for leaks

Cheers, I've seen loads of your posts stating it's a common fault. I'll let you know how I get on.

So I've had a local mechanic diagnose it today. Looks like the water pump is leaking.

The car had it's third cambelt/water pump fitted back in July 2022; I didn't go with a VAG kit, I ordered a SKF (VKMC 01148-2) kit. My thought process at the time was: I've used other SKF parts (wheel bearings, drive shafts) in the past and I've never had an issue with them, so order an SKF kit whilst I'm ordering other parts from AutoDoc.

Although it's not the OEM parts, SKF do very good OE parts. But it's entirely possible that the SKF kit isn't genuine (I don't know how common counterfeit SKF parts are).

My usual mechanic is picking up the car with a transporter early next week. He's going to diagnose it himself, but it's probably going to get a genuine TPS cambelt/water pump fitted.

I use drive2.ru with Google translate as a gauge on parts reliability.
It’s a Russian forum centred around parts, members give reviews etc. really good board.
my thinking with that site is the Russians in general tend to look after their cars, and put them through their paces.
anyway when I was looking for a pump, skf were regularly mentioned as leaking shortly after fitting on the Caxa engine at least.
brands they rate, other than genuine, are hepu, Graf, aisin, to name a few.
it’s a shame as skf make great bearings and their prices are great.

Cheers man, that's really insightful. I'll take a look at that forum in future.

Be careful as allot of russian sites etc are there to garner info as in your email address, whether or not the passwords are encrypted who knows but certainly don't use a common password & maybe use a different email address aswell as no identifying data tbh, just be careful.
