A sign of things to come then.

Indeed I saw this earlier in the week, it seemed to be similar in style to an article from Autocar in early 2020 with not much content but lot of aspirational plans. I think we are looking at 2026 minimum before it rolls out of factory as battery/performance/handling/range seems to be the balance they are trying to iron out.

VW need to decide what they are doing with their car range. The Autocar article on electric RS3 for 2027+ said Audi would not be using MEB platform and would be using the 2nd gen EV platform (SSP) and I am wondering if Golf will go EV as well for mk9. (Last comment I saw from VW boss was they actually hadn't decided yet what mk9 golf would be EV or ICE/Hybrid. Recent (this week) Autocar article/with comments from VW boss saying they have good brand value with car names like Golf/Polo etc so need to work out what they are going to do with them in the EV age. Another watch this space I think

But at least the buttons will be back on the steering wheel :thumbs up:

How depressing

I still think the manufacturers are jumping too soon instead of running combustion cars all the way to the deadline of 2030 - 2035 as hybrid.

uk charging infrastructure is a joke and years away from anything you could call established and without detailed planning of a route, not to mention finding chargers that work or already in use and who wants to hang round a service station for any longer than 10 mins ????

Synthetic fuels are on the horizon too which could be a game changer.

Either way, get ya petrol engine car now while you can mate … just in case this EV madness is steam rollered through.

EV aren't as bad as you think once you've own one.

Yes they're quiet but so are most new cars.

They're quick as fck and cheap to fill up.

I only came to work in the S3 this morning becuase my GR Yaris was in front of the Tesla. :)

I think Synthetic fuel is the way forward over full electric cars .

I just can not see the infrastructure for charging in the UK being sorted for the 2030/35 deadline .
Only the other day I saw two people arguing over a charing point in the Trafford centre .

I plan to drive a car with a combustion engine until the day they are banned .

I don't know how anyone who loves cars can think this is A Good Thing. The new C63 has a tiny 4cyl engine of course + external speakers with a fake 6cyl sound!

Well, I've always wanted to fly the Millenium Falcon...so if my EV (at some future date) sounds like that then I'll be happy.

I like cars but as things stand today...I won't be taking an ICE car up to any ban. But I have managed to think of another test that any EV would need to satisfy and that should keep them off my drive for a few extra years. I call it the QRA test. ie if a relative suddenly rang and said you need to be over at theirs, how quickly could I get there on the basis that even if I had just come home from work with an empty tank of petrol in present car, I could be into a PFS and heading over in 10/15mins from my house. The real test will be how much carrot and stick is applied for the change and also, sorting out the charging network (number of chargers/simplicity)

The cars may be an acquired taste, but the overall Tesla package with supercharger network make them very hard to beat - from what I have seen

I think one EV charging problem would be when they are all in use but some have 'finished' charging and still connected whilst the 'arrogant' owner is still looking for just the right tracksuit in the Trafford Centre

tesla have a good network of chargers agreed. But omg the cars are so generic and boring looking aren’t they. If you just want a vehicle to get you from a to b fair enough but if you want a car that excites you and feels special to own erm I don’t think so.

My missus is swapping her company car in March, jumping from a 117bhp Micra to the 400bhp 660NM Polestar 2 (which in itself scares the hell out me), so it will be interesting to see how it compares to mine.
I think Audi need to move away from the current platforms and do something different. A mini Etron GT would be awesome.

I was driven around in one of those Polestars when I went to Goodwood earlier this year. I was very impressed with the quality of it !

I was talking to a chap with a ModelS Tesla a few years back and he was saying how great it was etc. however, he had the car warm itself each morning so he had a nice comfy car to drive from the go but he went skiing and forgot to turn the function off while it was sat at Birmingham airport. He had the ‘ping’ on his phone to say the battery was low so went into the settings and turned off the pre warm. When arriving back in the UK he made his way to the closest supercharger point where all slots but one were full. The chap in front in his Ford people carrier pulled in to the last space. He had a quick chat with him asking him to move so he could charge his car, was told no as the chap walked in to the service station to use the facilities. He had to wait for one of the other slots to become available and waited almost an hour before he could charge his car. That’s all ok until he told me his flight landed at 2am!

For me a hybrid will be my next car (after the RS3) unless hydrogen becomes more available just for the speed at which you can fill and go.

I had an interesting 'drag race' off the lights with a Polestar 2 in my Golf R (with a 'Superchip/Bluefin' ecu flash, so Golf probably 350/360 ish hp?)

The Golf just edged it but interestingly the Polestar was level with my rear bumper and every time the DSG changed up a gear the Polestar would jump about 3 feet forward and then ever so slowly fall back before the process repeated at the next DSG up change, no doubt the Polestar would be quicker than a std Golf R

I saw a video where a Polestar could not complete a lap of (I think it was Oulton Park) before the battery managment kicked in and drastically reduced the Performance, I also felt a similar thing with the Tesla Model 3 Peformance, I hounded it from a standstill and once it got to about 80mph it definately did not have the same hp as when I started, I let it cruise at 70mph for a couple of minutes and then floored it and it then felt as if the full performance was restored

forget hydrogen, Shell are closing their handful of sites in the uk. Looks like hydrogen will be more for buses / jcb’s / bin wagons etc

Interesting feedback, cheers!
Whilst it won't ever be tracked it's good to know she will be able to keep the majority of the local hoodlums in check at the lights.

Annoying thing with EV is they just sit there and give no clue of what their intentions are, no raised idle or noise level :sadlike:

Silent Assassin :whistle2:

I was travelling along a dual carriageway into a roundabout after which I normally floor it,. On this occasion, on the inside of me was a Polestar. It did cross my mind that it had more torque...so I ambled through roundabout and out the other side just to make sure I wasn't embarrassed the other side. He did put his foot down and I fell in behind for the couple hundred yards before it went single file. So yes, I didn't want to put the performance up against it :sly:

As a benchmark I think a std Polestar2 (from my experience) would just have the legs on a std Golf R, it would lose to an RS3 once the turbo 'eventually' winds itself up (very slow spool compared to the E888 Golf engines) but the Tesla 3 Performance would be a different story.......

I did a 0-60 with my Dad in the Teslarse last weekend, he said it made him feel sick! And he was always a petrol head/fast driver.

Did you see the Rimac absolutely destroy the Lamborghini on Top Gear? Lambo had a 300 metre head start on a standing mile and the Rimac still passed it before the finish line

^^ HP or in this case I assume torque will always win though. Rimac has a ton more power.

What would you rather Mike (a) destroying all comers but bored to tears (b) enough power to beat most people but not everyone whilst having a great time?

Acceleration is EV's one and only trump card though.
I've got all the power I need in the 8Y RS3 but even then, without the soundtrack of my 8V RS3, it is only half the experience / enjoyment.
For me the sound is a fundamental part of the overall car package.
The EV drivers can happily tear around in silence or soar away from the lights, it won't bother me one bit.

Difficult question, There used to be a Citroen 2CV (race car) challenge, they all seemed to be having a great time as well,

A Rimac will lap the Nurburgring quicker than a Aventador SVJ (6.29 v 644)

I honestly wish that EV's had stayed in Milk Floats and little Nissan Sunny town cars and didn’t work with anything high performance, but unfortunately they are starting to work very well and are really pizzing me off big time now they are encroaching in my area of interest/hobby,

It's all disappearing, the ‘forged’ balanced engine, changing and degreeing camshafts, gas flowing heads, different turbo’s, exhausts, fuels, mapping etc etc.

We now have Tesla’s as family cars that can match or beat your RS3,

I wonder where we will be with a new RS 3’E’ in 5 years time? Interesting and/or worrying times

I hope they don't build a RS3e and instead just let the car die a natural yet dignified one. I wouldn't buy it that's for sure.

If the infrastructure was something like this (about 14min 56secs in ) then it would be more appealing, quite like the car too :whistle2:
