SQ5 2016 SQ5 Plus Auto Cruise Control Peculiarity. ZF 8 Speed Transmission

Hi,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my 2016 66 plate Sq5 Plus in December 2021 with 62k on the clock. It's all standard. I did get a technician to rollback the diesel emission update to software version 0004 about 3 months ago however I left the transmission as I understood that it didn't need doing.

Within a couple of weeks, I noticed that whilst I was on the motorway at 70mph, the cruise would kick down from 8th to 7th. I could manually change up to 8th, but it would drop down to 7th after a short period of time. If I knocked off the cruise control, it would change back to 8th straight away.

I reset the transmission using VCDS and the car has appeared a little better, but it still occasionally kicks down to 7th. I did follow the instructions regarding resetting the adaption.

The issue only occurs when warm, I have a 55 mile journey to work, almost all dual carriageways and motorways and I always set the CC to 70mph. I don't thrash the car at all. I have spoken to a local Audi specialist who can't offer too much assistance over the phone, and they're booked up for 3 weeks before I can get it in to them for a transmission service, although the tech said this would not solve the behaviour of the CC.

It seems more related to the CC than transmission. Does anyone know why this happens or have any advice on possibly resetting the CC (it isn't adaptive)?

Thanks, I did wonder about that but I thought because the majority of my driving is long distance I thought it would have done it anyway. I did see a reading whilst using Carista of 12g of soot (from memory). I might try and force a regen to see what happens.
 
2016 was the model change year, if I recall correctly. Which generation is your SQ5; 8R or FY?
 
Hi, it's an 8R. I might take it on the motorway later and force a regen using Carista. It seems to fit the characteristics of a regen, although why it would kick down to 7th when I'm doing 70mph is strange, as is the fact that when I knock off the CC it changes straight back to 8th.
 
Just travelled along the motorway, engine to temp, soot level - 8.1g. Did a regen, went down to 3.1g of soot. I had cruise control on and the gear didn't drop from 8 to 7. No error codes. I'm travelling to London on Friday, I'll see what happens again.
