Car is a 2014 A4. Engine is a CJCB. B8 FL.
I've replaced the thermostat and inline/EGR thermostat with Genuine parts from Audi and the car is still not reaching 90c with the heaters on. I know these engines are very efficient but there's people out there with the same engine that do hit 90. The temp sensor is reading correctly too.

I have even ripped open the old thermostat housing and heated it up in a pan while using a thermometer and I did see it start to open up around 85c indicating it was working in the first place.

Commute is 11 miles to work, at best I get 75c.

Has anyone any other ideas to try?

What state is the coolant in? What's the SG?

If coolant is ok, possibly an inefficient water pump?

Hi,

The timing belt and WP was replaced by Audi November 2020. 13k miles ago.

My EGR cooler then cracked in the summer, I replaced this and that cured my coolant leak/burn. As I lost a majority of the coolant, I flushed the rest out and used Granville Rapid Cool 50/50. I asked the garage what I should use and they suggested this. I'm unsure of the SG rating but it says VAG TL 774D&F. I'm led to believe this is G13/similar and is suitable.

I'm not sure how a faulty WP could cause the engine to underheat if that is the problem.

I have gone as far as covering the radiator and that didn't help the case. I'm totally at a loss.

I have just drove home from work now with no heaters on and the car reached 90 within 3 miles/5 min driving. I turned the heaters on to 22c and it dropped immediately. I have also noticed that I'm getting about 35mpg until it reaches 90c then it slowly starts to rise.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am suffering the same issue and would be interested to know if you've fixed the issue
