RS3 8Y General Discussion Thread.

I used my rear window washer last night which spat out some dirty water then stopped working all together. Fronts still work so there is fluid in there. Did a quick search but didn't find anything. Anyone had this or know this as a common fault. My worry is the water is going somewhere. I seem to remember passenger footwell leaks but not sure. I guess a pipe has popped off somewhere. If anyone has a quick fix it would be much appreciated. TIA.
My rear washer on my old 8v S3 used to regularly clog up. Used to have to remove the cap over the nut and clean the little impeller that’s inside to sort it. Maybe worth looking at.

You were spot on. Took off the cover, removed the nozel, blew through with an airline. Back to normal. Thanks.

Thank god that was an issue with a 8V too, was already expecting to see 8YARWY thrashing on how this was only expected of that crappy car. :smirk:

Hi everyone, i just picked up a 2024 rs3 kyalami green this weekend! awesome car so far. Im curious when did everyone do their first oil change? I know audi says 10,000 miles but that seems way too long.

I think most people here like/would recommend to get one in around 1,000 miles, 1,200 tops.

When I took mine into an Audi specialist they couldn't believe the manufacturer still recommends 10,000, as the way the engines are now built, they often have quite sizeable flaking occurring in moving parts. Apparently the thinking being that it should lead to better sealing around those parts and means tolerances are better.

Glad I did mine early as there was quite a lot of debris floating around!

What are people being quoted for an oil change out of interest? I was quoted £350....seems bit punchy
£583 here! Hilarious.

Although other Audi centres not too far away are quoting down to £379. I get that demand will cause a little variation but to have a swing of more than £200 for the same service between centres 30 miles apart is utterly breathtaking.

Having stuck with Audi for my 8V, I started using approved independent specialists that have access to erWin, as it's half the price.

Oh yes.

The same one that on Monday tried to charge me about £314 per corner for new tyres when mine still have 4.5mm of tread, and they can be bought and fitted for about £300 less in total via Blackcircles.

Mine is booked in on 7th October for its first oil change, will be on around 13.5k miles. They are doing the service at the same time, it's not due this till Jan/Feb but i'm not paying so agreed to it.

Anything more than £150 for an oil change is a joke.

I was also thinking around that range!

It is worse than that, they seem to be set to variable servicing from new so can go 19,000miles (30,000km) or 24 months before they get an oil change. All bar one I have looked at have been like that. Absolute madness IMHO but it will not be Audi or the first owner that see the problems, it will be way down the line and out of warranty.

Quite convenient for manufacturers and their dealers if cars don't last more than about 10 years. Long enough not harm their 'reputation' but short enough to keep people needing new stuff.

Mine was done yesterday. Guy said it would have been £530 if I had been paying for it.

Nothing to report.

14k miles
Front pads 10% worn
Rear pads 5% worn

Wow. That’s crazy!

My brakes are squealing at low speeds and I’ve only done 6500 miles, so clearly can’t be worn…must be another issue.

I had that... came up for it's first times interval for first change, luckily only at 8k miles, but workshop reset the service reminder, and straight away it was up for it's B service at 2 years...:stupid:
the first A should have been 1 year, not 2...

came like that from the dealer from new... bad setup..... (didn't take it back to them..)

Mine are the same at 8,000 miles.

Happened to take it into Audi recently for a quick fix on some plastic trim and, as part of the free health check, they claimed the pads are something like 30% worn!

Couldn't believe it after my 8V pads were only 50% work after 27,000 miles and were subjected to much firmer braking.

I seem to have managed to get rid of the squealing for the most part through quite significant and thorough cleaning of the wheels, discs and pads when washing the car. I have always been meticulous with cleaning and washing anyway, but have found I really have to spend a lot of time on the discs and pads for the 8Y

Superb, thanks!!!

I am also very meticulous about cleaning the car but due to the poor weather of late, I’ve found 2-3 weeks go by without a clean on occasions, perhaps the problem which seems ridiculous. Will see how I get on. Cheers

If it helps, I've also found immediately treating the wet discs, hubs and pads with Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac after washing helps, as it prevents oxidisation.

I'd relied on Autoglym Magma as my wheel cleaner previously, but now use ValetPro Dragon's Breath, which is pretty good. I'm sure there will be better or more effective products that others can recommend, but I've found it to be good enough for now, combined with a thorough scrub!

Took advantage of BlackFriday deals and picked up a Racechip GTS5 black with app control from AWESOME

Look forward to seeing the difference. States 60ps...

Sunday morning I woke up to all 4 windows being down - it had been raining so it was a bit wet in there! The car was parked up from around 5pm and I can see on my cameras that at 7.30pm the windows were up. Keys weren't touched after 5pm so it's done it all by itself.

Disabled global opening/closing in the MMI now - only thing I could think of trying.

Even after closing the windows, the MyAudi app said the drivers window was open. After driving to work this morning, that has sorted itself out thankfully.

I assume this is a piggyback? Any idea what power it's making over stock?
It’s the GTS5 Black with app control. Claims 60hp and 80nm of torque. Above 4/4500 really shifts. Turned it off, did another pull stock, then reverted back to map 7…without a shadow of a doubt a good difference!

Quite tempted by one of these as they would be hard to trace if you remove it before service. Audi would really need to go forensic to find it in the logging.

Did it come with RS3 specific installation instructions? I've read they only provide general guidance, not tailored to each application.

Yes, my question on this would be how untraceable it is when the vehicle goes in for servicing and how visible it would be in logs. Especially when under warranty.

Whilst not performance-related, the ASR exhaust flap for example is totally undetectable when installed and deactivated, so it would be great to have something similar here, but I can't imagine that would be possible considering what it is doing to the car?

I’ve no concept of electrics/engines in the slightest…so trust me, 10 min install at best, and very easy to do! I was emailed the instructions as they forgot to pack it within my order, but they are specific to the RS3 and with ample photos to follow. Absolute dummy guide!

How often are they going to log your car unless major faults? And how often have you heard of huge, catastrophic errors with an RS3 engine?! As long as your letting the oil come up to temp and booting it for a short/moderate spell, can’t foresee issues. I wouldn’t however take it on a track

Well i fell foul of the horrendous potholes around me last week and had to purchase another new tyre. At least both fronts are now done and the rears look OK.

I had a nice trip around the shire last week. Roads were good, for a change, but the traffic was heavy but moving and managed these MPGs which I thought were good. Managed low 40’s in my Golf R so was surprised at how good the RS3 is now that it has a few miles on it.
