RS3 8Y General Discussion Thread.

Well I've owned two 8Y A3's as you might see from my signature, fourth year of ownership now. The first one was a PITA, guess the same scheisse you had with your RS3. The one I currently have is light years better, though it's having some rattles and clicks that speak of uneven manufacturing quality I guess, since the first one didn't have those. I test drove the 8V back then and quite didn't get the hype around it. The drivetrain and especially suspension got much more sophisticated by 8Y.

Agree with you that they are heading wrong with their newest interior and pricing realizations. Not what I was hoping when they kept the physical HVAC buttons and integrated screen when the others went all screens and tacked-on tablets.

Clacking brake pedal Audi say is normal was embarrassing especially when you have anyone in the car asking "what the heck was that noise" :whistle2:

Passenger side vent always creaking no matter what you did with it, Audi weren't interested

Steering Rack lock to lock clicking sounds that was replaced under warranty, however it then came back with steering wheel off centre, so 3 more visits and no joy with getting it straight ahead, in the end i went to a specialist alignment place who sorted it.

MMI software / App that was terrible

Gloss black flaking off the exhaust tips on the inside.

Dealer that got brake fluid on the calipers because of poor housekeeping after a fluid change

Dealer that didn't reset oil filter drain nipple after a service, so oil leaked out of it.....plus a pollen filter that was never changed, thought i wouldn't check more like it.

Dealer just in general a complete waste of space, puts you right off Audi.

Software that every time i scanned it with VCDS was littered with error messages, (8V RS3 never had this) yet the 8Y is plagued by poor software / Errors.

Interior of a S-Line A3, you could be sat in either and not really know which was which lol......

Yeah that's bad. One thing that sticks out is that lots of people tell those horror stories about the UK dealers, that's weird. In here I have mostly nothing but good to tell about the dealer. If it was like your case with my first 8Y I'd had no choice but take a hit of the instant depreciation and get rid of the car, and never would I buy a new one from them. Instead they did everything they could to fix that then-unfinished product and finally offered me quite a fair deal of the new one.

Sadly that's how UK dealers are I'm afraid, happy to take yer money but anything else is like bad dentistry, painful.........

Glad to be out of it now, less worrying if it'll be damaged at the dealers, or pinched when out and about in it, the UK car theft stats are shocking and the Police are a joke.

I’ve had my RS3 for just over a year now. I’ve had the oil changed at 3000 miles and on a reasonable run on A and B roads managed 36.5 mpg over 77 miles which I think isn’t too bad. My Golf R would get up towards 38 mpg over similar roads. How’s everyone else’s doing and does it get better with more miles?

Compared to my Golf R (7.5) my RS3 averages slightly less on shorter knocking about/shopping runs, 26 v 28mpg, but on longer runs that we have done in both cars the RS3 will show a shade over 40mpg (maybe 42) whereas the Golf would be in the 38/39 mpg area :)

When there was a 50mph Speedlimit on the M4 roadworks to Reading, was averaging well above 40+. Now with 20mph around here, dropping 1mpg/1minute. just daft.

I want to drive my car in RS Individual mode more but the range of fuel drops so fast I can't do it for more than a minute... (and lets not get started on RS Performance mode where it sounds like you don't know how to change gear).

Dear Fellow RS Petrolheads,

Not sure if anyone has looked into key fob covers but I recently bought one from H Bodykits Sydney.

They can be customised and this one fits 8Y RS3 perfectly.

Turnaround time is quick - a couple of weeks and deliver to UK from down under. Really pleased and it much better than the official Audi merch one.

Link is below. Thanks.

My average over 10k miles is showing as 24mpg. From memory it will do about 35mpg on the motorway.

Not too bad really, only slightly worse than my last car (Megane Trophy) and that was only a 1.8

Does anyone know if the offset for the front wheels will also fit on the rear without them sticking out past the arches? Just wondering on a square setup!

The offset is like 20mm more aggressive and then they’re also an inch wider as well so I imagine you’d end up with them sticking out of the arch by 15mm. So I guess no is the short answer.

Does anyone know how to turn off lane assist and permanently....its dangerous! I live out in the sticks of East Lothian and with lots of twisty roads, it's incredibly intrusive. Fed up turning it off every time I get in the car. Assume via VCDS or something similar only?

Yep needs to be coded to turn off permanently.

I honestly don't know how carmakers get away with including this as a feature. Both my cars have made good attempts at killing me off. Whether it's into a tree or into oncoming traffic.

Thought as much, annoying, but thanks.

Yeh, its seriously dangerous! Just this morning it pushed me out right on a tight left hand bend with an oncoming car. My wife's Q3 you just turn it off with the button at the end of the indicator stock...so much easier.

OBD11 worked for me.

Same method applies to the 8Y RS3 - end of the stalk

There is a really useful link somewhere, posted by @Mike.46, and have coded mine to remember last setting which is off in my case but I can turn it on for when I’m on the motorway, if I want.

I think there are 3 ways to get it to 'remember last setting' (so once turned off with stalks it stays turned off until you turn it back on with the stalk).......never used mine in 2 years :)

VCDS, OBD11, or a dongle from Kufatec,

I went on VWROC forum and then the section for VCDS upgrades under tuning and modyfying and the procedure for doing this with a Golf R is the same as RS3

Cheers @Mike.46 i did mine with OBD11 using the link you posted. I need to refine it so I can todo the same for my wife’s A1.

Had a decent run up to Manchester airport and back yesterday. Motorway kept moving and my fuel consumption was showing better but last 10 miles or so had a number of drivers wanting to do 25 to 30 mph in a 60.

Good numbers. Our old 1.0 Focus Ecoboost used to average about 40mpg on a long run. Just goes to show that in this case less cc's have to work a lot harder.

Recently covered 1200 miles on a trip to Paris - averaged between 36 and 38mpg on different parts of the journey. Pretty impressive.

Dare I ask how many miles you’ve done in yours? I’m at 7400 now and it’s getting better. My Golf R was about 15000 before I saw a decent leep in MPG.

It was on 11k miles when I set off for France.

Has Apple Car Play had an update or something?

It's not switching the radio off anymore when my phone connects.

Same in both cars. Happy Days!

Did this happen by itself or did you do something? Mine switched between phone and radio twice today during 1 km trip.

Nice - mine still switched off the radio when connecting this morning. First world problem I know but it would be nice to keep the radio on. I'm assuming this must have been an IOS update as afaik there's no OTA updates for the MMI.

I have no clue what changed. I just went out and tried it again and can confirm my phone connected with wireless and came straight up on the screen. Radio stayed on. Plugged it in as well and again radio stayed on.

The phone is an iPhone 15 Pro which is only about a month old. AFAIK it's not updated since I got it. IOS 17.5.1.

Is there a setting on CarPlay to control this?

There is a setting on Android Auto to auto play music when it connects.

My dealer said it's partly depending on what iPhone model you're using. Mine's SE2020 and it does often the following: when I get into the car it connects the phone automatically and changes to CarPlay if I had the radio on last time I drove. If I switch back to radio it soon says "smartphone interface deactivated", then it reconnects and again switches the radio to CarPlay. That's pretty annoying, but for me it's fairly easy to tolerate because I rarely listen to the radio anyway.

I broke 38 mpg for a large portion of a trip up to see family in Northumberland this weekend, which is a solid 350 miles or so. I think it came down a bit as a result of some more "spirited" driving at the end of the journey, but was still up at around 36/37 mpg when I arrived which I think is pretty impressive. Although it came down quickly with anything other than motorway driving, there was still a good 90 miles of range left at the end of that main journey too

It’s amazing when on a decent run the MPG you get. Went to Highgrove on Thursday mostly A & B roads with a short time on the M5 and was close to breaking 40mpg over 80ish miles and that included a couple of ‘nipping’ past slower traffic. The more I drive this car the more I like it.

8V doesn't do so bad :grinning:

MPG42

Mind you I can't get that on the winter tyres, never saw that on the Pirellis either, but each time the Michelins go on the MPG hits 40 and that is not really trying. Average of 64, much of it was 'around' 70

I used my rear window washer last night which spat out some dirty water then stopped working all together. Fronts still work so there is fluid in there. Did a quick search but didn't find anything. Anyone had this or know this as a common fault. My worry is the water is going somewhere. I seem to remember passenger footwell leaks but not sure. I guess a pipe has popped off somewhere. If anyone has a quick fix it would be much appreciated. TIA.
