I have an s3 8y with only rear parking sensors. I want to get front parking sensors for it is it available to do by yourself or does it have to be a dealer job? Preferably wanting genuine ones so it will come up on my mmi. Any help?

You can get a retrofit kit from kufatec in Germany. I will be installing their kit on my own A3 saloon soon.
Electrically it's not much different from the kit for the 8V, cable harness in the bumper, cable harness from bumper to a control module (that you have to replace) in the dashboard. Button module in the center console also gets replaced to have the manual activation button.
Holes for both outer sensors are already there, and the holes for the 2 inner sensors in the grill will have to be drilled and punched.

Do note that even though a coding dongle is included that it will still require you to manually unlock the SFD on several modules before being able to do ANY coding at all. I've used an OBD11 this week to unlock the parking module just to allow me to replace rear brake pads, it's a serious pain on these new cars..

Hello I would like to share some information I collected over the time regarding this topic.

But start with a question: Does anyone know is the coding required for PDC Front can be done with OBDEleven, and what do I need to do?

From what I've learned so far, retrofitting the PDC Front requires:
  1. a new module: 5wd 919 294. Replacing the old parking aid control module (referred to in the Audi documentation as: J446).
  2. 4 pdc sensors in the right colours
  3. An electric Harness and a wire harness
  4. Some holders for the sensors
  5. A button which activates the OPS in the MMI
I have some questions regarding the points above:
Point 1: there are other modules than the one I mentioned (5WA919294A, 5WA919294B and 5WA919294C) also for both Rear and Front PDC, what is the differencebetween these?
Point 3: is it correct that two harnesses are required?
Point 5: Is it just possible to add the button to the instrument panel, do I need to replace the instrument panel entirely, and, is this plug and play, or is additional wiring needed?

For additional question please don't hesitate.

Point 3) its two looms, one for the bumper and the other for inside the vehicle.

Point 5) button cannot be installed on its own, it's part of a panel but its not needed unless you want to be able to manually turn the sensors on and off.

Am not willing to share any coding information I am afraid.

I have completed loads of these retrofits. If anyone would like a professional quote using genuine new OEM parts + warranty please let me know.

*I fitted the button panel to this example as it also had a reversing camera retrofitted at the same time.

Hello @DJAlix,

Thank you for your information regarding the retrofit. Regrettably, I'm not based in the UK and cannot bring my car to your workshop. However, I did find a retrofit set, but apart from the PDC Button it also includes a parking assist button (the button with the steering wheel icon) on the instrument panel. Could you advise if it's possible for me to replace that button with the one from my current instrument panel, which lacks the icon? I believe it would look more fitting, as it would be odd to have a button without a corresponding function.

Many thanks!

Cannot replace the buttons on their own as the board inside the panel, with the LEDs and contacts etc, is a single board and not individual per button… if that’s what you mean? I guess you could remove and swap the blank “key cap” and swap it with the park assist one if you really wanted to but if they are anything like the 8V caps I believe it’s a pain in the bum.
