Goosey built S4

Nice, I don't have an S4 just a 3.0TDI S line but it drives well enough and could handle a track day or 2 a year. Thats not great on track but good you got it sorted. I've got the B9 S4/S5 Akebono calipers over some B8 RS4 Discs with Yellow stuff pads. They work well but not sure on the pad contact patch as the disc is actually smaller than the pad, they're a huge improvement over the standard TDI brakes combined with S4 rears so happy with how they work so far.

That's some great advice, I think after our last chat everyone has bowed out. It sounds like it can get very costly should we have an off and also there is the potential for someone to crash into us on an over zealous drive! I think it's looking like a solo trip or I'll head there with a different car.

I actually live in Thatcham so just outside but not far. Where abouts T'up north are you? I'm originally from Sunny Scunny!

I use an A6 disc with the b9 akebonos and have no issue with pad to disk contact. Somewhat cheaper than the rs4 disks as well

Yeah, i managed to pick up the RS4 discs cheap second hand with plenty of meat on it.

I wondered if having the A6 discs would a better effect

All depend on the disk size really, can’t recall offhand what size the a6 disk is but it is bigger than the standard S4 ones

The A6 disc is 356mm and the RS4 disc is 365mm. But the A6 disc surface area is much larger. On the RS4 it has 4 separate pads each side so the disc surface doesn’t have to be that big as the pads cover a larger area. And I guess in part some of it is to reduce the weight of the disc. Even with the aluminium bell they’re still weighty and much heavier than my original 320mm discs

Hello troops - mega long absence.. our beloved 10yr old Ridgeback got sick and passed, then work went t1ts up for a while.. but things seem to be settling now.

Not a lot to report.. had to refresh a few maintenance bits.. new battery, bi-xenon's bulbs, rear bumper re-spray (thanks to the sh1thouse who hit me in Tesco Formby and drove off!!).. managed to squeeze in a last track day at Donnington Park again in early Nov, which warped the front disks, so they've been replaced too.

I still have BRAND NEW v1 gloss black Maxton side skirts sat in my garage up for sale, as they don't fit B8.5 Avant's.. pls someone make me an offer so i can get rid ! (ad in the For Sale section)

I am also SERIOUSLY looking at going bigger with the front brakes again.. the Macan 4 pots are miles better than stock and look awesome, especially with decent disks/pads/lines/fluid.. but for the power and weight of this car, and what i do with it, i NEED bigger.

Have been eyeing up 6 pot APs, with 380mm 2 piece floating disks.. should give less fade, and have way better cooling :racer:

Will get the stock 19" rotors off at the weekend to take some measurement's... i already run a 5mm spacer so clearance should be OK.. but if they fit in the rim, i may even try to squeeze in a 390mm disk lol!

Speak soon - peace

I thought with the 6 pot AP‘s you needed to fit the rs4/5 brake booster as well?
I’d go with the B9 akebonos and perhaps look at ceramic discs.

Not according to Dean at VBT.. he assures me that the pedal feel will be like stock (once bled properly - my Macans took about 4-5 bleeds to feel right)

Some folks on here have purchased the RS4 master cylinder only to find out its the same as the S4 (25.4mm)... that said, some US guys say they have a 27mm so go figure?!

I think in this instance I'm targeting swept friction area and repeated heat mgmt over initial bite and clamping force.. thus i want max disk size and 2 piece floaters - should also help with unsprung weight at the front too, so could help reduce understeer and improve turn-in. Meh - its all trial and error right lol

Right - Im off to measure up the rotors :smilingimp:

Heat management then ceramics are your friend, if the stopping power is enough with the macan then look at carbon discs for those, check out midland ceramics, they do bespoke applications and can make you whatever disc you need

Just order a 6 pot AP (CP9040) kit from Reyland... after measuring the inner barrel of the stock 19" rotors i was fretting about squeezing the AP Radi-CALs in with 380-390 disks, so opted for 370x32mm 2-piece floating j hook disks, with DS2500s HEL lines, and custom adapters.

Will be still be effing toight tho.. by my calcs i should have about 3mm clearance between the caliper and the wheel - eek

That said, Martin at Reyland said some people run Rizla clearance !!!

So.. sit tight, delivery is 21 days.. i need to go lie down, and google how much my battered organs are worth before mrs goose sees my bank statement lol

Exciting times!

HMU if you want to shift the macan calipers.

Also - why didn't the side skirts fit? Are they a different length?

Not so much the length, its the edge of the skirt that fixes to the sill is different... Maxton's website was very vague.. but turns out the v1's do not fit B8.5 Avant's!!

Had them sat in the garage so long i missed the Maxton 30 day returns window :(

v1 (for sale)
1739174763850

v2 (now fitted)
1739174945923

Pic with them fitted to follow.. got my first track day of the year booked Mar 10th at Cadwell whoop whoop!!

PS. My search for the perfect 3.0TFSI exhaust set-up continues.. having had mine changed about 4 time now lol!

Today i had my Scorpion baby resonators cut out as they had blown out their wadding and were just empty tinny cans... so now i have:-

Stock downpipes (with gutted cats), to Scorpion 2.5" non res downpipes, to Scorpion 2.5" centre res box, to Scorpion 2.5" rear back boxes... and im pleased to say its the best its ever sounded!!

I should point out tho, that at separate times i have had to have both backboxes removed, cut open and repacked, as they had blown out all their wadding... and today had to have the centre res box re packed too !!!

I will never buy Scorpion again - shocking quality.

Should have spent more on a Milltek, or had custom from the get-go.

Hey @g00se hope you're doing well and having a good 2025

It's so hard to find a good set up for the S4 but glad you've landed on a solid one for now.

I had a custom one made and I'm imminently about to get rid of it. Lovely and quiet around town, but unfortunately it just holds too much sound and vibration/bass.

My next 'system' will be from the resonators back and valved. Hoping that will be the best of both worlds.

Thought there were 2 smaller resonators after the downpipes?

Either way I have a new mid section and valved backboxes, just need to get them booked in

Ooh shiny! :tongueclosed:
APs

AP2s

Guess I could have gone up from a 370 to 380mm disk.. but im not mad at having a 8mm gap between caliper and barrel of the rim, leaves enough room for wheel weights etc:)

Got just enough bedding in mileage on them before they got beasted at Cadwell Park on Monday - where they preformed flawlessly all day

They fit really well. How's the pedal feel?
Pedal feels the same / if not better than my old 4 pot Macan Brembos did.. i may bleed them again just to satisfy my curiosity.. but other than that a very happy goose

Need to look at the second round of rear brake upgrades next lol

Looking great @g00se!

You still on the hunt for an exhaust?
Can confirm a valved system is the way to go.

Got a capristo one and it's mint.

So after 12 years driving SUVs/wagons, i no longer need a dog vehicle

The time has come then, to part ways with my beloved S4 Avant... a few parts (inc the amazing AP 6 pots!) will be removed and up in the For Sale forum, so watch this space.

Thank you all.. FYI - i'll still be lurking over on the RS3 8V section, as i picked up a low mileage/owner 2019 ara blue saloon :blueheart:

Cheers,
