Hi all don't know if there's anyone out there that can help me becuase I've got a noise in my car (audi a3 2litre tdi 07) that's driving me insane so basicly the nosie is a rattling sound I notice it when I start the car sometimes and also when I turn it off I also notice it when Ime driving and slowing down and mostly when I am making right turns the noise also seems worse depending on which direction the wheels are turned or where I am parked or even if someone else is in the car it's like it's something to do with weight distribution I know this sounds crazy but summin ain't right and every time I try to explain it everyone looks at me as if ime crazy. I first took the car to 2 garages who told me I kneeded a new flywheel I have had that work done rattle still persists I then had enough and took the car to a vag specialist who told me there were loose engine parts causing the noise they looked it over and secured all the parts told me it was sorted I went to pick it up and rattle still there so back it went I then had them try to tell me it was a worm engine cover making the noise until I removed it and the nosie persisted and proved them wrong they then told m it was a broken coil spring making the noise they showed me on the ramp and indeed there was a broken spring so I have had that done the noise has improved but it's defintly still there I just don't know what to do anymore ime about to give up here is a video of the nosie ime getting this is just when ime parked but this is the same noise I described which happens whilst driving https://youtube.com/shorts/pWpq2MY_V3o?feature=share

Is that not just the electic power steering rack having a spazzy when you reach full lock?
Does it do the same doing full lock in the other direction?

Hi it doesn't do it when full lock other way and the nosie is also there when ime driving and turning to the right and when ime like braking and slowing down it also can be worse at other times like when there a passenger in the car I really don't know what it is anymore driving me mad
Heat shield over the exhaust/near something to do with the power steering?
I'd be a bit pee'd off if I paid to have the flywheel changed! not a cheap thing to change to 'try it and see!' (or was there a different sounding rattle before hand?)
maybe something wasn't fixed back correctly after changing the flywheel? has the sound changed at all from before you had the flywheel done? or was it the same?
Surely as you can recreate the noise easily like that, a mechanic could locate the source?

Hi mate, i feel for you honestly. I have an Audi A3 2.0 TDI 8V and i've got the same noise but not when on full lock. It's the exact same noise, but when my car is in idle, tap the accelerator slightly and the noise disappears, let it go again and the noise comes back. It's not all the time, and is intermittent - trust people have looked at me like I'm a crazy person, but it's driving my insane also. One garage told me it could be my flywheel which is starting to play up, but i doubt it and after reading your thread I'm deffo not replacing mine. The noise is so prominent from inside the cabin, open the door and you can barely hear it. Damn Audi's.
