In some ways I can understand the negativity towards suv's because a lot of them are just aimed at the current trend and do have a lot of the traits mentioned , but some are more focused and while still maybe a little compromised, they do offer far more than there equivalent hatch/saloon.
I changed to suv because of my wife's disability, she simply can't get in and out of a low car, but now I have one its a revelation.
I would also add having an S3 8P and an 8V S3 , both modified, my current RSQ3 would outperform them in EVERY department......doesn't feel like a compromise to me

A pertinent problem with SUVs, in this environmentally friendly time, is that they make lower mpg than the equivalent hatch/saloon.

That said, as someone rapidly approaching 50, I can see a time when the ease of entry/exit resulting from the higher ride height will be a deciding factor in their favour for me. So there is a place for them. But, like the unwise push for diesel that came before, perhaps dealers shouldn’t be so keen to push them purely because they are more profitable: for most families, a lower riding car does the job, is safer (better handling) and less expensive to run.

(That said, I must admit that I almost bought a CX-30 this time around, because I preferred it compared to it’s hatchback/saloon equivalent, the Mazda 3. In the end, the A3’s better drivetrain sent me towards the greener option <smug smiley><winking smiley>

A fair point mate. Which covers quite a few suv's but just to give my 5 cents worth my Cupra has better mpg than my S3 had so I'm doing my bit for the environment..lol

I really like your car P burv.
I am considering one or a BMW X3 Msport 2.ol as my next car as I cannot get diesel as only doing about 6 k miles a year .It will be nearly new or a year old hopefully as i couldn't justify new .
What make of tyres did you get on yours ?

If it's the M40i it is quite a car but high price and heavy on fuel. Anything smaller is rubbish, had 20i and it was also crap on fuel and not exciting at all.

We have a Coupe. RV on Targa way better and it will live in France. Serious question, why are SUVs so popular when they are so compromised in comparison to saloon or estate variants.

They are not compromised at all, many SUV's have been set up for fun. The Q3 you had wasn't exactly a car for thrills and wasn't built for a more focused driving experience. You don't like SUV's and I respect your view, but my current car blows my previous A4/A3 and possibly the S3 out the window. Plus I needed something a little easier to get out of so it's the right car for me. Obviously your car choices suit you and are probably better built than mine, but I still wont be "dissing" your cars because it does not bother me at all.

There's a few 1.5 Formentor's for sale now on Autotrader 49 from last time I looked? Not sure I would pick the blue seats though.

I have put Michelins on my wives VW Golf GTD so they will be good on a Cupra.
I have never had a car with 300 bhp so I think it will be favourite , Most I have had is 170 so will really look at Cupra when I come to change as I want petrol this time and I am sensible enough 61 to hopefully not get caught speeding .I got caught 25 years ago doing 76 in a 60 and got 3 points and a fine , still got the points on my paper licence as I haven't renewed it for a photo one yet .If they had been sitting at another bit I would have potentially lost my licence as was well over 100 mph.....but have slowed down a lot since .

I haven't had much experience in the X3 but I can say that you wouldn't be disappointed in the Cupra.
When you are allowed you need to find your nearest Seat/Cupra dealership and arrange a test drive. Even if you are considering used?? I would still try a test drive at a dealer.
This is the cheapest on Auto Trader at the moment. Considering the price that's a lot of car

There's a horrible blast from the past.... Had an awful (close to court case) issue with them quite a few years back.. There's some really nasty salesman working with that group who wouldn't think twice in selling their kids to make a sale.... Terrible company

2019 White CUPRA Ateca 2.0 TSI DSG 4Drive (s/s) 5dr for sale for £26875 in Guildford, Surrey (autotrader.co.uk)

I look at cost of cars in a different way now, I wouldn't do a pcp again (whilst the world is in this state anyway) so would save and pay cash, take that one for example £26,875 to start, their pcp figure says its's worth £11,911 after 4 years @ 8,000 mile per year. So the difference is £14,964 divide that by 48 months = £311 loss per month.

Using my S3 as another example, I paid £28,500 new in March 2015, just done an Arnold Clarke sell figure = £15,250 so if I had kept that and sold it today full loss since March 2015 would have been £13,250 / 70 months = £189 month! A new Insignia or Mondeo would lose more than that in the first 3 years!

You'd be surprised at what car you can get for the same sort of (loss) compared to a lower spec standard car doing the math that way! Paying a bit more upfront and then selling it later could cost the same or even less over the term, but you get a much better car for that term. Basically just look at the depreciation figure

When my kids were young we managed perfectly well with an A4 and A6 quattro and at one point an A5 Cabriolet 3.0Tdi quattro and that was with a large twin axle 'van. All within load limits and towed superbly. An SUV is rarely a requirement in any situation but if you like it I suppose that's OK.. shame it's not an Audi however!! ;-)

X5 is a classy looking SUV very large though...........just dont get in white lol l think my forthcoming car the TTS Vorsy...looks great in white but l still wouldnt have a white car again and l would never have a SUV but l see the attraction for just a few, most are guff especially JLR and things from Korea and Japan....X4,X6,Q5,Q3 Sportback are ungainly looking they shouldnt try to make a SUV sleek and sporty looking.....it never works

Tell me (genuine question) Who emptied the toilet whilst you were caravanning?
You seemed to 'relish' in an earlier post about other caravanners joining up for a chat whilst emptying theirs. I wondered if you did the same?

I don’t recall any difficulties emptying the toilet when caravanning. Not sure what point you are making. The boot of an Estate is equally suitable for moving no1 and no2 hence I don’t understand the need for an SUV. I don’t recall making any comment about joining in any chats emptying toilets ??? We generally joined up with others in rather more sociable places but it takes all sorts!
