I am hoping maybe the community can help clear up in my mind what may be wrong with my car. A3 1.6TDI 2011
Now I have had this issue for a while... every few months my car exhaust will smoke badly with light blueish smoke, my rev counter needle is juddering, I can hear the engine juddering too. The smoke is really bad it takes up a lot of road behind.
I was recommend the change the EGR only back in April, and I am still having this problem. I don’t really know what to do because I have taken it to a garage who don’t see a fault, I never get any warning lights come up during this smoke session. It’s very annoying, the smell is bad. And the smoke even comes out from the engine bay sometime come from somewhere deep but from the top end.
The thing is it will spend time between these periods driving just fine. But it is quite embarrassing, and I’m sure I am doing some real polluting when driving the car while all this smoke is blasting out which is no good.
could it not be the EGR? I have replaced this twice in two years (Eurocarparts/GSF) could it be turbo? No visible leaks. Coolant level is consistent, so is the oil. The car sometimes pings on acceleration but since I have been using premium diesel that happens less often.
Before I go and replace the EGR again which is so costly I just wanted to know if others have had a similar issue?
I’m sure I have probably missed out some key info, so I happy to be called out about it and share more.
