To be honest, i think its going to be the way forward, with smaller engines giving so much more power output it makes sense, i think one of the main compromises would be the sound the car makes, however a friend recently got a Golf R and the noise that makes its pretty damn impressive.

Isn't that because there's an engine sound enhancing coming out of the speakers ?

I believe you are right they have something going through the speakers to make it sound 'fast'!!

I can only assume Porsche will no doubt go down that route too.

They are owned by the same company so my guess is the engines will be tuned versions of what's in VAG cars already eg 2.5 in the RS3
