I have the 3G high, the upgrade to 3G+ is £750 Supplied and fitted.

Has anyone done this and if so did you think it was money well spent?

The 3G+ will give you bluetooth streaming built in, full postcode input for Nav, better 3D maps, newer interface, ability to voice command in sentences rather than spell out a destination, video playback from the built in SD cards and hard drive and more...

Seems quite expensive. I did mine myself. Head unit (without SIM version)was about £300, control panel £120 and component protection removal by an independent VAG specialist was about £50. It uses the same wiring loom so less than 20 minutes to swap over.

Was it worth it?

Is any of the mods we do worth it? ;-) The things I like about the 3G+
1) If you get the Audi connect working you can get info like local parking info and fuel prices
2) Full post code entry can be useful
3) Wifi streaming of music
4) Google Earth
5) Interface looks better than the 3G high one
6) I think the voice control is better (I can't remember ever using it on the 3G high unit)

I don't like the fact Google Traffic doesn't seem to work on units retrofitted after late 2015.

I think that Kenwood/JVC does a nav unit that has Android Auto and Carplay. This will give you access to Google Maps and Waze. They are quite pricey.

Video says bluetooth streaming, is that just telephone only or music too? (Thus no need for devices like Tune2Air).

I wonder if 3G High --> 3G + is the same price at 750? As the High already contains the HDD etc..

I would like to do this mod on my A6 which is fitted with 3G High that includes HDD, Bluetooth, Nav, AMI etc

Can anybody help out with part numbers of the units I require please?

I would like the MMI unit with the SIM card slot for google maps etc

To be honest, if I was starting from a position of having an out of date MMI system, I wouldn't spend any money on updating or upgrading it. I think your money would be better spent on adding a retrofit Apple Carplay/Android Auto unit.

Discussion on low price DIY option here.

High cost but reduced risk with customer support from UK supplier option here.

I went from 3G low to high just to get Bluetooth streaming and was worth it. Sourced bits slowly from ebay as they became available at sensible prices.

Never use nav as google maps on my phone is much better than audi and when Bluetooth streaming the directions come over the car speakers

I have 3G High, I have played movies from SD, and I think from HDD also.

We can convert 3G to 3G+ without any hardware changes so it saves time, looking for parts and saves visits to dealership in order to deal with CP. you can contact me if you look for such conversion. I am based in UK
The most relevant question here is what will that cost?
