3D / 4D number plate ban

Had my MOT earlier this week and the tester pointed out the ban on 3D / 4D number plates. Having a quick search I can find one article on the caregg site, but nothing on the .gov.uk sites. My missus and co-worker had pointed out the same to me. Is this ban coming in September or yet to be confirmed?

I believe so,I think they are crap(no offence),so I’m glad it’s coming

Can anyone please tell me what the fourth dimension in so-called 4D plates is?

I like the "3D" ones and have a set on mine as below, but really not a fan of the square "4D" ones. Just had my MOT last week and nothing was mentioned.
