Chrome trim

Could you remove the chrome trim that I have highlighted below and still drive the car or is it part of the window/door seals?

I believe its rivet on so to remove is a massive job most just have it wrapped or painted in place

Being a painter id advise against painting them, if you cant get them off without it being a ball ache you wont get the paint round the edges enough let alone being able to key it up enough for the paint to stick without using a roll of duct tape to prevent accidentally damaging the bits you want to keep shiny.

id say get them wrapped it will probably last longer if you use a good company as a pressure washer will end up taking the paint off eventually especially if you clean it often, i did the chrome on my old benz and i thought i did a good job or as good as i could being on the car i used a plastic primer, etch and 2 pack paint to be on the safe side and it lasted a year and looked terrible and caused myself more work to get it back to original.

The door weather strips have clips on the inside, and the frames need to be removed to gain access.

I believe the upper trim is riveted from the inside and the small section beneath the rear 1/4 glass simply unclips from the outside.

A stupid way of fixing them but i guess thats just Audi for you!

Best option is to have them wrapped although not a permanent fix, over time you may have lifting issues.
