I was looking today to see the legal size of a number plate however it seems there isn't one ??
Just a character size and a top and bottom margin so a 3 digit number like RR1 needs only to be 147mm wide
11mm side margin ,50mm letter ,11mm space, 50mm letter, 11mm space ,14mm stroke, 11mm margin

Does this sound right to you lot ? It looks like there is an industry std size but its not Law ?

There’s no industry size of the actual plate, it’s just the font, size of the font and the spacing. They also must have on them the name and location of the place that made the plates for you.

Yes. No legal size, other that what you have listed, but and industry standard of 520x111 mm.

Also rules on single/double line and uses of black and silver plates.

Thanks Guys, i might chop mine down as its rather long, i could lose about 14CM off it and still be legal.

As long as it is on a reflective backing your fine so the speed camera's can grab you

Depend on the layout you can can also tey the jdm type plates which are shorter in length but taller in height but u may get some.stick.fot it lol.

As said above its mainly the backing font of lettering and size especially at the rears as its the most important. Mine are illegally spaced but i live in mexico so hey :) still picked up by cameras though as I had to drive in the bus lane and got a letter within in 5 days.
Front plates on the other hand is more flexible some get it put on a smaller sticker like mine some remove it altogether mainly on hyper cars or bmws and audi with big black grills just depends on how anal the police are and especially of traffic cops

@paddy order a DVLA approved motorcycle plate from ebay - you'll get a pair for 20. As above, they need to have the postcode and name of the company authorised to print.

"RR1" would need to be 158mm wide (as an absolute minimum). Other than that seems legit to me and is my understanding.

I had to check this recently before I got my 'short plates', mine are 360mm wide.
