The wifey called on the way to work yesterday to say that the engine light came on in the Q3! Obviously I thought "£££". I made it to hers straight away and it turned out to be an amber Emission Control System (EMS) Lamp.

Plugged in the OBDeleven, started the car and got some info...

A quick google detailed that this would be an air leak after the MAF causing the engine to run lean. A couple of mins later, I detected a sucking noise coming from the PCV/Oil Separator at the top of the engine.

It turns out that these can fail from as low as 30,000 miles, my Q3 is a 2013 model with 52,000. Part number fitted here is 06H 103 495 J.

Gave both Audi and TPS a call, turned out TPS had it in stock for £68.84. Part has now be superseded by 06H 103 495 AK.

The overall job was extremely simple. Removed two coil packs for access along with 10 x T30 Torx screws and a couple of pipes.

A little oil came out of the old unit as expected, but it cleaned up nicely with some wipes and allowed for a nice clean area on the cylinder head cover for the new unit to fit onto.

Job Done (all in £68.84) :sunglasses:

Feeling quite smug as Audi would have charged for Diagnostics, Part(s) and Labour. I estimate this job would have been in the region of £200 - £250!

This engine (variants of EA888) are fitted to many VAG vehicles and this seems to be a common issue based on the research carried out.
