Hi guys

I know there's already quite a few threads on this common fault, but wanted to see if anyone could give me a steer as I'm hoping to get my aircon working on my A3 2005.

As I understand it the ECON button staying on means there's a problem activating the system which could be re gas, pressure switch, compressor.. etc. Before I try a regas, I have the following errors appearing on VAGCOM scan -

01592 Air Quality Sensor Open or Short to Plus
01809 Left Temperature Flap Positioning Motor Mechanical Failure

Questions I'm wondering are:

  1. Could either of these above issues be causing the ECON light error? (Ie should I investigate these before doing the re-gas, or is the re-gas/low pressure still a likely cause?)

  2. Also I've read that one cause can be a broken G65 pressure sensor. If this was the case would that fault show up here on the scan?

Any help much appreciated !

Cheers

From what I’ve read in answer to your questions:

01592- only affects recirculation.
01809- not too sure as this regulates the air temp on the left side.

I suggest getting the air on system pressure tested for leaks etc. When I had this issue on my A6 it exposed, if my memory serves the pressure sensor which was a simple job. I don’t think this (G65) showed on a scan, but this was this the issue.

My econ button issue turned out to be my radiator fans not working correctly. An easy one to diagnose, kind of makes sense that the aircon used to work until the engine got up to temp

Great thanks for the tip, does seem like lack of pressure is the issue one way or the other. Will let you know how it goes.
