Hi,

I’m after a bit of advice. I’m looking at changing my M140i for something a bit more practical. I was originally looking at B8 S4s but am thinking that I might need something a bit better on fuel.

So I’m looking at 3.0 TDIs. My budget is around £11-12k and I’m looking at 2010-2012 S Lines with around 100k + miles.

Is this a good idea? What are these cars like with those kind of miles? Are there any particular issues I should look out for ?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers!

Great engines, just do it :thumbs up:.

Check down under the bottom belt pulley at the front of the engine for pink coolant residue. This would indicate water pump or gasket failure, but don't let that put you off, as it'll cost circa £200 incl Labour to replace at an indy audi specialist. Check around the egr cooler also for coolant, as they can leak sometimes.

I’m not sure if the model you’re after has s tronic or 8 speed auto but if it’s s tronic my advice would be to try to test drive from cold and go thru all the gears in each mode

Pay particular attention going from 1 to 2 and down shifting from 3 to 2

Dsg oil and filter services are vital

I would be checking either gearbox, as if you find an issue it will also a lot of money to put right. Also at 100K miles the tiptronic box should have had at least 1 service and the stronic box should have had 2 services.
