Hi I’ve just recently bought a Audi A3 1.8 TFSI 2009 plate and I’m just wondering if anyone knows if there’s any brake upgrades I can purchase I’m not looking to spend crazy money just something reasonably priced.

Thanks in advance

What’s wrong with the current setup?

I just feel that the breaks could be a lot better I went from a 2014 Clio with drums on the back and and disks on the front and honestly the Clio felt like it had more stopping power.

I’m also wanting to remap at some point in the future and also upgrading other things so I want to be comfortable with the stopping power before upping the power.

Replace the rotors and pads for Brembo or similar from Eurocar Parts, get fresh brake fluid and if needs be get some braided lines (Hel Lines).

I’m pretty sure the 1.8 shares the same setup as the 2.0 (the 2.0 may have a larger rotor diameter) - and with the 2.0 being 40bhp more stock you should be fine with what you have, even after a remap.

Yeah that sounds like a great idea I’ll give that a try thanks for the advice. I’m not great mechanical wise so I’d manage with the discs and pads but I’ve never touched brake lines before so I’d put it in a garage for that any idea how much that would cost ?

Probably an hours labour, plus you’ll need them bleeding. All in reckon £100 inc fluid.

Always found the brakes very sharp and good on my car (based on a cars in its class). MOT tester said the same as well, once. I have 255mm discs rear (nothing special in terms of size) and 312mm on the front. I'm surprised that you found a hatchback, with rear drums, to feel better. As above, a complete refresh and brake fluid change may work wonders.

I’m in the same boat with seized front caliper which will also need new discs and pads... current setup is 288mm, going to fit the s3 8v calipers which are 340mm. Picked up a set fairly cheap.
