Lately there been a lot of discussion of how to enable the rear speaker on half amplified cars, this "guide" will explain to use why you need one of theses harness and what type of harness you need and is pursuing you’ve got either a universal headunit (such as a pioneer or Sony etc) or a no name Chinese headunit who’s harness isn’t working properly

TAKE NOTE: this guide is a work in progress and is produced using information gathered around on this forum, contacting several audio shops and connect2 website, some information maybe incorrect. so if any errors are found please indicate them i'll will make sure to update this post.

Right some background first, all cars that have rear speakers have a sub in the boot which is powered with it's own amp. The amp needs a signal to turn on and produce sound, if you're really unfortunate and your car doesn't have rear speakers equipped then you're going to have to retrofit fit in and use an aftermarket amp and sub. - this guide will not apply for you

First identify which headunit you have as this will effect what harness you need. if you have the single din concert

or double din symphony with the cassette type

then you will need one of the following harnesses:

if you have this type of headunit and your new headunit has rca out this get this type of harness

if your new headunit doesn't have rca out then get this harness
http://www.connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT20AU09

Now if your car has the newer double din concert, chorus or symphony headunit that looks like this

you are going to need a different harness due to the Audi changing the audio wiring harness when they swapped to this headunit

Again if your new radio has rca out then use this harness

at the time of making this guide i haven't found a harness that clams to enable the rear speakers without rca output, if anyone finds one please post it below

AGAIN TAKE NOTE: this guide is a work in progress and is produced using information gathered around on this forum and contacting several audio shops, some information maybe incorrect. so if any errors are found or there are newer updated harnesses, please indicate them i'll will make sure to update this post.

Excellent! I’d also add the harnesses that enable steering wheel control via CANBUS.

CTSAD00C.2: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CTSAD00C.2 comes with both ISO and QuadLock connectors, covering all 8P models from 2004 to 2012. Connects2 do ISO and QuadLock versions individually but the combined harness costs usually the same.

CTSAD00C.3: Connects2 has updated the above harness (and others) recently with a .3 edition that also supports Siri via the steering wheel. So if you are after Siri integration get http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CTSAD00C.3

If you are fitting aftermarket head units from Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood/JVC/Alpine you’ll also need a patch cable - this enables the steering wheel control to work with your aftermarket unit. The harnesses discussed above all come with a free version that should be good enough.

@maxpayne i totally forgot about the canbus harnesses (might need to retrofit a mfsw into mine at some point), good addition !

You do not 100% need to connect2 kit to create the ignition feed from CAN.

You can simply purchase a 12V fuse jumper and use that as the switched ignition, 1 to turn the head unit on with ignition and also you can feed that to the rear amplifier enable (blue wire) and the majority of head units have an amplifier enable output too.
