So..Friday - Southampton to north London and back, Saturday - Southampton to Dover and back.

I haven't done either of these drives before...but what a shock...

How many speed cameras??? Lost count! Even the TOMTOM cameras app can't keep up!

M25 - you can't set the cruise control as the speed changes at pretty much EVERY gantry! 2 lanes empty, and the other 2 minimal traffic and yet - 40 MPH - brakes from 70, several times. How is this safe?

All I did for 2 days straight is look at the the speedo every 10 seconds - it's exhausting and unsafe! It used to be fun to drive but now it's just unpleasant. EVERYONE's speed wanders up or down a few MPH for a few seconds/a minute, we're only human, but of course the cameras don't allow for that. Even the cruise control will pitch you at 70+ downhill.

I understand cameras in small villages and dangerous bends, but EVERYWHERE on straight, quiet roads.

Really?

And after a billion speed/average speed cameras you have to concentrate on, they have the balls to put up 'Don't drive tired' on the gantry..well I wouldn't if there weren't so many cameras!!!! Arrrgghhh!!!

I used to be 50/50 as to whether speed cameras were for safety or revenue, but now it's 100% about the £££s.

The proliferation of the average speed camera got to me when out and about recently. As the tech gets cheaper presumably more and more will go up meaning no speeding at all of course! Hopefully they stick to m/ways only.

Hadecs another painful one as you need to keep a real careful eye on the gantries as you approach.

Good job they're stopping people doing 80-90 on motorways it's been safe to do that speed on for the last 30 years.

I'd hate to think they put any effort into getting twats, drunks and unsafe vehicles off the roads.

Remotely enforce arbitrary and massively outdated limits for profit! Cut back on actual policing and safety. What could go wrong.

It's become an art form down under, speed cameras, combo red light/speed cameras, mobile speed cameras run by private companies, police hiding up trees with radar guns - don't worry about actually teaching anyone to drive properly.

Our speed limits on motorways are 6o mph and 60 mph on country roads that are almost empty and all our local authorities can do is keep reducing the speed limits , even though car safety standards have improved considerably over the last 20 years. the academics here especially keep pushing the speed cameras as the answer to everything.

Only one thing for speed cameras

What is needed is for drivers to become much more militant and to act when the government becomes too authoritarian, its the same in other area's of life where the silent majority are overuled by the vocal minorities.
