8L MFSW Conversion

My bad, what i meant to say was i have a dual stage 8P steering wheel fitted is there a single stage airbag that would fit this steering wheel, i have everything else working on the steering wheel but as i have a dual stage airbag i get a airbag warning light ( normally only when the outside temprature is below 10c).

You CAN wire it up so you have no errors.

How would that be done? Would i need to add resistor as the fault code is coming on as the resistance is below spec, or would it be safer to install a single stage?

Installing a single stage would be safer if they don’t do them for that wheel then you’ve not got much choice you’ll have to fit a resistor with your

While I agree. Ideally you wanna do the polo airbag retrofit - But you can have it error free without resistors

You will see on your single stage bags pin 1 and 2. Look closely on the plug.

On the dual stage. There is also pin 1 and 2. Join 1’s to 1 and 2’s to 2 and you’ll have no error.

So I found my old phone and charged it up to get these pictures, I'm only able to post two at a time so please bare with me, I did this a few years ago now.

This is the polo 6n2 airbag before it was modified

Picture 1 and 2 are the same part before and after it gets modified, a steel plate was drilled to make a mounting plate for the polo bag and it was welded to the part in picture 1 after the end was cut off

The blown dual stage igniter was attached to this ring by some rubber so it was cut away and used as a spacer

And finally the horn mechanism was reassembled, there you have a single stage 8p/8j airbag.

So I bolted it in to a scrap car and ran some wires to a battery so I could set it off and make sure it deployed properly through the cover, I have pictures of this if anyone wants to see them

Really impressive mate! You should start up your own retrofit business, Hazzy Days said it cannot be done! You’ve shown anything’s possible

Anyone got a link to the (Bose) quad lock adapter they used mine has a broken clip so doesn’t hold and to many of the pins don’t line up

Quick question on the install I bought the fuse with the wire each side does this go on terminal 75?

Ok right there only one part I’m a bit stuck on and it’s. The steering wheel side of the slip ring the yellow plug I don’t need to touch as my horn and air bag are already connected but the two pins above it I need to run to the black plug for the controls (3wires) so do I not connect the 3rd pin (earth) to anything ?

Earth wire should already be connected directly to the airbag if using the wheel/airbag combo as in the guide. If not you can splice it into the earth for the horn.

warren il email you won’t let me upload the pictures

For the 3 pin terminal from the MFSW controls I crimped on a ring terminal and grounded it separately to EVERYTHING by undoing one of the torx on the back of the steering wheel and grounding it on there - this is why my backlight wasn’t working - it was grounded with the horn/airbags loom = not correct.

For me anyway

Yeah got it sussed now airbag been of for a week while I been doing this an hour here n there just missing the obvious ha

When you say it won’t work do you mean it just fires you to the enter pin screen when you turn the ignition on? If so you need to reset it (hold down radio and setup buttons til it turns off). Might need to do it a couple of times. Mine does it every time it’s been disconnected.

No it doesn. ’t even turn on, panic over for now anyway, it’s the battery after leaving it on for 2mins the dash started fading away can’t even jump the f in thing as I lent my cables to me mate, had the battery on a charge all night aswell going to have to wait to get me Jump Leads back

Sounds like a new battery is going to be your next purchase then :whistle2:

This one has a 5 year warranty and it’s probably 2 years old so will see if they change it
