Hi there

I know there is a billion threads on these issues but i have tried everything, left battery disconnected etc, used VCDS, switched off cold diagnostics etc.

The lights have ran for years without issue, the rear number plate lights have been replaced with identical ones which now switch on then off and the footwell light works for a second when plugged in. but remains off (driver side is working fine)

however i am unable to detect the error with VCDS, initially i did detect the error and clear it but it has remained lit on the dash? but cleared from VCDS?

i have been all over the car looking for fuses bad earths etc etc etc but all seem good.

the warning is on dash still, VCDS and torque app dont see the error though.

anyone had similar issues?

thanks

If it was a ross tech cable and you cleared the fault well it should be there the next time unless it was a old fault not cleared so do an Autoscan with your cable and pop the autoscan in the vcds section and someone might be able to help

thanks for the quick response, i fixed the foot well light,
this LED is now working
but the rear number plate lights are still just lighting up for a few seconds then switch off.

the vcds has no errors to to show, cold diagnostic is disabled. i had 007 short to ground but cleared it after installed replacement lights

orange bulb warning is on dash (http://gallery.myff.org/gallery/891125/DOM_4419sm.jpg) same as this

but no errors showing on a new scan with vcds, auto scan has nothing related i need to clear

cheers anyhoo, ill wait till wed then leave battery out and start over again to see if can get vcds to see error

Thanks for that, that's the error i cleared.

The cables are all good, earth is clean and voltage good (had panel off on saturday, had the housing out and good, not melted or anything and fitted new diverter valve while i was there, :) good times again)

i only took to the forum because it seems something has went weird with the vcds or cars dash cpu for display has been borked up :/

im sure if i can reset that on the dash/ecu and they should work as they are identical to the ones removed.

thanks for the help :)

mon the tic :) lol

If your cable is genuine update it and if not then i guess you will be at a loss

vcds has been working fine for years, torque pro app has also stopped detecting the error,

its almost as if ecu ok, dash display still shows error, lights then have a wobbly and switch off but ecu still says ok.

I'll get the battery out on wednesday (maybe tomorrow if not p***g down) then drill out the screws i have mashed in :/ remove lights re re re re check install with new screws

cheers again

Are the rear number plate lights LED or standard bulbs?
hi there
the LED ones, same as a5, been one the car for years, replaced with identical ones (canbus,,,error free etc) but they switch on then off since swapping the new ones in.
the old ones are green inside and just knackered.
I cleared the code in vcds, it now reads no error... however the dash is showing an error
the other warnings from the battery show (i disconnected it)
and the diverter valve error are now gone as desired and car runs sweet :)

If the old bulbs were green , that means water is leaking into the lamp units and/or the connectors at the rear of the lamp units. You need to remove the lamps from the boot handle and investigate. It’s not uncommon that water has crept into the boot handle wiring.

they where on there a long time, i probably got it up in there with a jet wash or something over time.
I checked again today and managed to get the error on vcds, cleared it but it remains on dash. but not in vcds.

tomorrow i will remove the battery and start the procedure from scratch. I posted just incase there was some quirk i was missing.

I thought i would be just plugging these in as just a direct replacement but nope

thanks for the quick responses, dark nights drawing in and im an easy target for the plod (im legal anyways but dont want the hassle lol)

As as Samuel says, just try the standard non led bulbs first to get you out of trouble.

couldn't find the original ones but did have a go again at it today and got the old lights to do the same thing.
since the battery has been out again today, the rear passenger foot well light has switched off.

thanks for the help guys but i think its a trip to a more qualified person,
i cant find a bad earth or broken connection but there must be a gremlin somewhere in the circuit .

appreciate the responses, many thanks for your time
:)

PITA for sure. I doubt you have a wiring problem. IF they light then go out then its a resistance problem. So now all of your interior lights work except for the number plate? In the end, its likely the circuit not sensing enough resistance and then tripping the power. I use 4H0 943 021 / 4H0 943 022 and never had a problem

yeah same lights, rear passenger foot well has went off and it was working so i think all these lights might be connected, one under the seat is a ****** to access without slipping a disc so i'll leave it till tomorrow if the rain dont start :)

Issue solved

got these working, however now they are not working again but im sure i can fix.

the copper contacts are the culprit, those little bendy ones not seating properly.

the key is perseverance lol :)

thanks for the help everyone whom gave a few mins :)
