VCDS Fault - 328964 - Motor for Front Air Distribution Flap

Hi all,

I noticed last week that I don't seem to be getting even cold air distribution from my vents. The air-con is working as I get cold air from the drivers side vent nearest the window, some from the centre vent but not from the passenger side nearest the window or centre vent. Air flow is working but it is "hot" only.

I ran a VCDS scan today and found two faults:

329988 - Motor for Defroster Flap
B1090 71 [008] - Actuator stuck
This I have had before and have ignored it when everything appeared to work (See old Post from September 2017) Guessing this is the window defrost.

328964 - Motor for Front Air Distribution Flap
B1091 71 [008] - Actuator stuck
This appears to be new and does kind of make sense for the issue I have seen, possibly not allowing the right temperature air to flow to all the vents?

Has anyone had this before and it is a question of taking the glove box out and checking out the actuators and arms? Also my car is still under warranty so would it be covered under this?

Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Definitely - if it’s in warranty, get it booked in. Initially warranty covers all faults. But I wouldn’t start taking things out to look yourself - could upset them!

Definitely something not right. Did a test this afternoon, 25 minute journey then temperate taken from inside the vents after the journey with the engine still running.

Climate control set to Auto and Lo
Outside Temperature (Reading from Dash): 26.5
Passenger left vent: 36.2
Passenger centre vent: 30.5
Driver centre vent: 21.7
Driver right vent: 17.0

Did another test this morning, 15 minute journey then temperate taken from inside the vents after the journey with the engine still running.

Climate control set to Auto and Lo
Outside Temperature (Reading from Dash): 21.5
Passenger left vent: 25.4
Passenger centre vent: 24.0
Driver centre vent: 14.5
Driver right vent: 11.0

I have exactly the same fault codes on my 2015 A3
Any update on those?
Any idea where those motors are? I would happily dismantle and have a look.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I took it to dealer and they replaced both under warranty. Not cheap if had to pay!

i can imagine, i had the mixer box out of an A3 8L many years ago for heater matrix and its a big job.
