Seems to be a lot more saloon's out there than i thought by looking at the poll. Maybe they are just hiding......:whistle2:

Speaking of keyless my last 4 cars have been(3 Ford/1 Honda), and 2 weeks into ownership of my S3 I am still often forgetting to take the fob out of my pocket and finding it quite awkward having to put the key in the ignition.....particular at night when I can't see the hole to insert it. Would be easier if the ignition barrel was lit up.
I keep telling myself my car is more secure without keyless......but I am rarely out of my local area and always kept my fobs in a faraday pouch at home so never had a problem that way. :)

Regarding body type......I have always preferred hatchbacks, but think the saloon shape looks very classy on the S3 and was my main reason for buying one. :)

But why should you (or anyone) need to keep their keys in a Faraday pouch? Then the one night you forget, or are inside a friends house, or local shop, they pick up the signal and away they go.

With all manufacturer keyless go systems vulnerable, why do they keep pushing these systems onto us? Maybe they hope it'll get stolen, so you buy another car off them?

I'm actually amazed the insurance companies aren't pressurising the manufacturers like they did in the 90's when so many car were getting stolen. Now it's even easier for scum to take you car, as they don't even have to break into it, break into your house for the keys, or mug you.

Just deactivate the keyless.

So when they grab the handle expecting it to open it doesn’t.

Deactivation of the keyless system is not possible with all manufacturers unfortunately.

I understand the potential security risks of keyless, but my location, lifestyle and precautions made this risk for me much lower than for some, so I have been happy to accept that risk for the convenience. :)

It is possible with VAG cars..........

Have done it on both ours and others........:friends:

I have had keyless on my past two cars and would always spec it... end of the day, it's insured so... but then, I also don't live in Birmingham lol

I have keyless and I would always spec it given the chance.
Living in Bradford some would be amazed I still have the car after 16 months.
At the end of the day I drive the car I want to drive.
Back on topic I see equal numbers of saloon and sportback around here...most have panroofs too!

Calm down @jassyo06 - you’re in Scotland, there’s no point in getting a convertible :whistle2:
Normally I would completely agree with this....but it's been pretty good the last few weeks. Only a slight blip with Storm Hector yesterday. :D

Nice.......but won't beat your black Daytona in the poseability stakes. :sunglasses:

Sportback + roof rails and box = incredibly practical family car! Gives me more load space than an A6 Avant (rear seats up of course) when I need it, but means I don’t have to drive a barge for the other 95% of the time! Nice to look at from inside the tent when it’s raining

...and rigged up a box hoist in the garage so when I get home I can drive in with the box on, run some straps underneath, undo the roof bar clamps inside the roof box and hoist her off. Box then stored out the way. Makes it a one man job in just a few mins. Similarly, takes less than 5 mins to fix the box back on :sunglasses:

That looks like a seriously tight fit inside your garage.....not much breathing room. :openmouth:
Camera will probably be giving a distorted view but looks like you would be struggling to open your door and get out.
Are you not scared of things falling off shelves and onto your car? :(

Fish eye lense. I though it looked quite snugg in there. Sunroof exit.

Ha - yes it quite a tight fit, but parked my old mk2 Leon 2.0 TFSI sport in there for years, so done this literally thousands of times before without incident. The S3 is a wee bit longer than the Leon, but not really any wider and still fits. Front and rear parking sensors do go a bit crazy though!

Nowt will fall off shelves - it’s all pretty organised (chaos) in there despite appearances. Wouldn’t risk it otherwise.

A bit of old carpet protects the drivers door from the wall when I open it, but yes, there’s a bit of contortioning going on when I wriggle out!

Prefer to keep her garaged - I have keyless entry, so hiding her away from unwanted attention can’t be a bad thing, and there’s a certain sense of satisfaction having a freshly cleaned car tucked away in the dry when it’s lashing it down outside :grinning:

@Leevr - you are pretty eagle eyed to spot my pano roof from that picture! Loving your Viper Green S3 BTW - brave choice but really works!

Rear snugness perspective. Had to remember to go into DIS and switch off auto-folding mirrors before I parked her up in there the first time! Auto mirror unfold not desirable when I start her up to take her out of the garage :grimacing:

Absolutely....I'm a confirmed garage man myself, even though it is a novelty these days to actually keep a car in one. :D
I probably wouldn't have bought some of my cars if I didn't' have a garage to park them in.

I’m with you Ron240 - discounted several other options on the basis they wouldn’t fit in the garage (latest S4 avant included). It might look tight, but it’s really no stress to live with doing this - and worth knowing she’s ‘tucked up’.

I'm the same. The house I'm in now, was actually bought because it had a wider than normal detached garage. At the Time I had an R8, so needed a wider garage to fit it in.

Given the amount of S3 / RS3's and generally nice cars that get nicked these days, it's best to keep it locked up in the garage out of the way

Seeing as we’re on the topic of garages... cars been tucked up in the garage all weekend as per usual... don’t see the point in leaving it sitting on drive getting bird crap on it if it’s not going to be moving!

Looks tighter than it is, but sensors and camera make it a breeze. Have about 10cm each side getting through door, but once in I can get in and out easily enough as can get door open to first stop point.

Gonna have to look at getting entrance widened if I get a wider car, as it’s great being able to put car in during bad weather like the storms we had the other day. Had I not garaged it that night it would have been damaged as I woke up to next doors empty wheely bin sitting in my drive as they didn’t bother taking it in when it was emptied, an instead left it out in 50mph winds!

How? I'd like to keep mine safe as well. Especially since I live near a highway on/off ramp. Seems to be a sensitve area for cars to go missing at night.

Also, saloon checking in :)
