Is there a way to stop the car from moving when you lift of the brake? (Automatic)

I have an S-tronic. My car doesn't have hill hold assist but it does have hill-start assist. When stopped the car will not roll back in the short time between taking the foot off the foot brake and depressing the accelerator. If stopped on a hill for any length of time I'd put the hand brake on and then the hand brake will automatically disengage as soon as the accelerator is depressed. I guess I don't quite know what I'm missing not having hill hold assist!
Exactly what I thought before the test drive mate, couldn't see any point in it! See my post above this one ;)

EDIT* We've flicked to the next page so: You push the brake down, a green light pops up on the dash to say it's engaged, take your foot off the brake and you just sit there until you push the accelerator....no need to touch anything else to keep you from creeping forward whilst at the lights etc.

Basically the same as you do now without the need to keep your foot on the brake.
I also recall her telling me that I'm not blinding the driver behind with my brake lights either (on the A5).

*If you have two switches just behind the gear selector, then you have Hold Assist. If only one you don’t. The one is the parking brake.
Maybe you should take the manual to bed to read :whistle2:
Ta da!

Just keep your foot on the brake and don’t give a toss about what other people think‍♂️

Good to see you (and several others) are keeping the Audi brand stigma alive and well.

The whole 'dazzling other drivers' bit is covered in the highway code which states: In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.

I've been told before that if you sit with your foot on the brake when the discs are hot it can cause them to warp. not sure how true this is but worth noting.

As previously stated, my driving instructor advised me to use the handbrake when stationary in case there is a pile up behind you. It will reduce the risk of you hitting the car in front or being propelled out into moving traffic.

I understand the dazzling bit, I’ll be honest with you newer cars brake lights are quite intense sometimes.

I passed my test a year ago and was told that you should indeed use the handbrake where possible, I queried this because I wanted the car I have now and knew that it had an electromechanical parking brake, my instructor told me to just keep my foot on the brake pedal, what I do sometimes is just use hill hold assist and it holds the car in place just fine.

Could you show the Highway Code to those idiots my age [18] who constantly keep their front fog lights on because they think they’re cool imitating DRL’s

It interesting that cars with autohold that keep the brake lights illuminated while the vehicle is stationary contravene the highway code, you'd think that type approval and the highway code would be aligned.

In addition to the fog light jockeys you need to add the miss aligned headlight idiots to highway code refresh list as well.

Its ironic that every Golf that leaves the factory has HAA as standard no matter whether its the base car or 'R'

It bugs the sh1t out of me that you had to spec it as a £75 option when I ordered my A3 last year. Not only are you paying a premium for the Audi badge, your paying for options that are standard on the lower cost Golf.

Yep, that's the one thing that bugs me too. When I ordered, rear sensors were an option - something that should come as standard in my opinion (later on they were standard but they upped the price so you were still paying for them really)

Standard now but then again I'm sure the price went up more than £75!! along with no S3 on the seats, steering wheel and door sills just S - Brochure says S3 on the brake calipers but mine have just the S as well - ****** penny pinchers

The electronic parking brake will accomplish what hold assist will accomplish- you just have to pull the parking brake switch up manually once you're at a complete stop. As others have suggested, just apply the accelerator when it's time to move forward again and the parking brake will release.

Exactly, I had HHA in previous car and it is very good, but as mentioned just activate hand brake (some people can’t spell!) and when you want to pull off accelerate and the hand brake will be automatically released, so no rolling forward or back if on incline or decline.
