Hi all,

Ever since I got my B7 in Jan this year the key fob reception has been useless, having to stand next to passenger side door and aim it at the rear window to unlock.

Radio reception was always iffy, picking up most stations but greying out as you drive around (RNS-E).

I had a google about and read about the antenna booster being knackered so pulled the cover off and checked it, didnt expect it to be the newer version - 8E5035225S and it has a tiny crack in the plastic. Any know if these are prone to the same problems of the earlier version - 8E5035225D? The contacts on the window were slightly brown so rubbed all the crud off with some 120 grit but didnt make any difference. Ive checked the window and it seems to be the original window (it has an audi stamp at least!) and theres no obvious breaks in the orange lines. Its got a new battery in the car and Ive also changed the fob battery.

I did buy a used booster (the 8E5035225s) off ebay keeping my fingers crossed it would sort it but didnt change a thing. Ive priced a new one up at the dealers and they want 195 + VAT. I want to be sure its not anything else before shelling out over 200 quid on something that may not even fix it! Can anyone shed any light on this? Could it just be that the radio on the RNS-E is rubbish and my fob is knackered?

I know that this maybe a silly question but you haven’t got a usb charger plugged into the front 12v aux/cigarette lighter?

Only reason I ask is that I had someone come in an A6 not so long ago and they mentioned that they had a similar problem to yours and it turned out to be the cheap charger.

There's a really cheap fix worth trying before you shell out that kind of money. It didn't work for me but my remote doesn't even work at all now and I'm not sure what the problem is with mine.

Unfortunately the pictures are no longer available so it's difficult to follow what he's saying. The fix is for the B6 but it's exactly the same for the B7 as our interiors are very similar.

Yeh cheers for that, already tried it. They all seem to fix the D VERSION, mine is the S so pushing/squeezing on it did nothing. I did clean the contacts etc but made no difference to reception.

I've taken the fob in today to an auto locksmith and he's said the transmitter may be faulty so he's gonna take it apart tommorow and see what's what.

Interesting. I might have to get that checked on mine as well but I think it does it with both FOBs that I have. Let us know what comes out of it please.

Turned out my key had water damage and a chip needed replacing on the board - open up yours and have a look. Doesn't explain why my radio is so ****** though.
