Brads A4 B7 DTM progress thread

Well im slowly but surely nearly ready to complete the rear end refresh and brake upgrade just a couple more bits to acquire and 7 exhaust clamps from Milltek but one is on back order and then im good to go.

Received the Verkline Kit on Thursday that was on back order for about 3 weeks.

IMG 4126

So I brought the arms and hubs etc to work today to press the bushings in.

All were pretty much a breeze except the hub bushings trying to press it in on the vice or bearing press it just wanted to **** over and bounce out, so i used some press plates a big bolt and nut and impact gun to pop it in which worked a treat.

Fitted the new wheel bearings to the hubs, and offered the 330mm discs upto them and put tools down good couple of hours well spent.

IMG 4134

Plus doing it all in stages saves me down time when i actually come to fit it all, which i will be doing the front to rear brake lines and undersealing one day then will tackle fitting the rear axle brakes on another day to spread out the work.

Now im off to order the 034 rear ARB :icon thumright:

Almost ready to complete the rear end refresh / 330mm brake upgrade. Its been 2 years on the back burn with other jobs taking the top of the to do list and other general maintenance and life getting in the way but can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Making progress chap, great stuff.
I kind of went through a patch where i wasn’t that bothered about the car but im back loving it again and can finally start to see the progress has been worth it, still a way off yet but il get there eventually perfection takes time so they say.

Next year im going to be trying to get to some car shows in it also.

Went wheels up north season finale and to say the weather was crap there was a decent turn out and its good chatting with other like minded folk.

Test fitted the painted A6 Carriers & 330mm S4 B8 Disc/S4 B7 Pads.

IMG 4523

Got the Lemforder rear ARB links installed also.

IMG 4524

Im debating on wether to change pads and run the B8 S4 TRW DTEC Cotec pads over the S4 B7 Cotec pads as i have the DTEC Cotec 18Z pads and the dust output is quite minimal.

Dimensions are near identical.

2 years acquiring parts and refreshing parts has been proper worth it

Front to rear brake pipes and HEL braided Hoses.

Fully polybushed rear suspension, powdercoated rear subframe with solid billet aluminium bushings, 034 motorsports rear ARB, 330mm B8 S4 disc’s with A6 carriers and S4 B7 calipers, new wheel bearings, new abs sensors and wheel alignment.

Quick clean up of the surface rust and a coat of zinc spray and then undersealed

9.5/10 hours start to finish thats how i roll :icon thumright:

Thanks to @wotmotorsport_ltd and @verkline_uk & @034motorsport.

214k miles and counting, oh and i need to fix the hand brake springs an my fuel level gauge as i forgot to unplug the connecter under the NSF access panel and ripped the wiring out the connector lol

Nice to see you doing a turbo upgrade.
I'm planning on getting mine all finished sooner than later, I have all the bits now except the clutch, but working on that then a 4 wheel dyno session.

This B8 turbo really is a great little upgrade as it is in standard form good for about 300hp maybe a little more im hoping to get a hybrid version made that can easily do about 380hp and maybe go up into the mid 400’s when i forge the engine internals etc then maybe look at going with a G series Turbo when i get bored

Sorting few odd jobs out today mainly checking a minor oil leak, cleaning up the earth pin on NSR lamp and repositioning a verkline bush that has moved in its sleeve that im trying to get replaced by Verkline and i noticed my 034 snub mount has giveway only like £50 to replace but on the plus side i found my car has already got 034 engine mounts fitted saved myself £300 so thats a BONUS !!!!

Verkline bush that i have flipped around and cleaned up and applied some loctite to try stop it moving anymore until i get a replacement.

IMG 5781

Safe to say the 034 bush had seen better days and taken a bit of a beating, all back up and running with no judder on clutch engagement at crawl speeds.

Not updated in awhile so thought id update where im at with the DTM.

Finally received upper control arm bushes from Verkline and the lower arm one will be shipped out in Jan as they currently have no stock and are in the manufacturing process.

I stripped the instrument panel down and added a DTM logo i found online
IMG 6658

Picked up a Flat bottom on Facebook Marketplace but was non MFSW so i didn’t have it on long as something else popped up.
IMG 6661

The one that popped up ……..

IMG 6663
IMG 6664
IMG 6665

Just need to get the 12 pin clock spring so i can code in the MFSW controls.

Also finally took the plunge into a private plate.
IMG 6659

Im also planning on taking the DTM on a road trip over to the legendary Nurburgring at the end of April next year so hopefully all the suspension bits that need sorting will be done and the verkline front subframe fitted also and maybe grab the JXB prop mount if funds allow.

Update:-

Clock spring is on and now coded (boy have i missed out not having these steering controls all this time lol)

Also started to make a dent in the Turbo support mods so grabbed a 3 Bar Map sensor, RS4 FPRV and picked up a R8 Fuel pump controller which i fitted earlier this evening and if anyone is wondering yes its tight to get out with the tank bolted up and required some gentle bending of the bodywork to get it out and back in.

IMG 6959

Might try get injectors, intercooler and hpfp internals and get it mapped again before the trip to Nurburgring in April but we will see on where i get with the front subframe and prop mount.

Should be grabbing the subframe this week to take to the powdercoaters.

Finally the last bit of the Drivetrain/suspension is a go, picked up the front subframe over the weekend to get powdercoated and Verkline billet bushings installed.

Got the bushes out pretty easily took off the rear underside lip off the bushing then a big old few whacks with a hammer and they was out

making great progress chap, any further with a turbo upgrade?
:yahoo:
Well, Im running the standard B8 A4/A5 IHI currently but on stage 2 software for OEM BW K03 so need to get the software tweaked for this turbo to see how it actually performs on a pretty much stock BUL as the N75 duty is incorrect for said turbo so boost high up in the rev range seems to be being held back as the ECU suspects its overboosting due to the larger turbine wheel and better flow of this turbo, im going to try get this done before my trip to the ring in April but i have a million and one other jobs that need doing before i go so time and funds will tell.

But my plan in my head has changed and its telling me to build a VR6T and drop that in which is something I've always wanted to do, i looked at maybe going Fully built 2.0T and big turbo and 07KT swap but im thinking real and cutting out the middle men and just going with it. Theres alot of resources/information and parts to do this swap and you only live once so why not aye !!

Front subframe got fitted at weekend and NVH levels aren’t that more than stock imo feels alot tighter and sturdy especially through the twisty bends.

Also did a brake fluid change and wheel alignment.

Timing belt and water pump is job for this weekend along with a heater feed hose thats swelled from a previous vac pump oil leak so im doing that for good measure before the Nurburgring trip as if that goes on track il be in a whole heap of crap !!!

Also front bumper is going to bodyshop to be painted as I’ve decided i don’t want pics of my car with a cracked bumper when at the ring as im making memories so i want to encapsulate the moment and my car to look in good shape too !!

Is that the IHI IS12 or IS20 ?

Is that the IHI IS12 or IS20 ?
Basically bigger turbine wheel and housing than Stock K03 but the Comp wheel is a little smaller i believe
IMG 2361

-K04-064 has a turbine 44.5 mm exducer/ 50 mm inducer, 12 blade radial

-IHI JH5 EA888.2 has a turbine 44mm exducer/ 52mm Inducer, 7 blade Mixflow design.

With the right Comp wheel upgrade your basically getting a longitudinal mini K04.

Timing belt & water pump was postponed today as its just been one of them weeks and i wasn’t in right mind set to take on that job and wasted my Saturday Afternoon so im going to go in on my day off next Saturday and tackle it so ive got plenty of time to get it done.

Anyway todays little job consisted of getting rid of the AMG A45 brembo disc’s that i believe are warped and replace them for directional Porsche Macan Zimmerman discs and a set of TRW DTEC Cotec pads.

Old brembo disc

Still that's another box ticked chap.
I know what you mean about being in the right mindset, I find it best to just put off any car work if I'm not in that frame of mind, that's when mistakes happen , best revisit the job on a better day.

I work on cars for a living so somedays i just can’t be bothered when it comes to mine if its been one of them weeks and I've been doing jobs pretty much every weekend for god knows how long to get ready for Nurburgring so fancied a day off and like you say thats when the F’ups happen lol

Thought id get the breaks on and get them bedded in before the commute to Germany

Timing belt and water pump all done now.

Removed the exhaust, gearbox subframe and snub mount which gave me access to the belt, its a bit tight removing the pulley but doable.

Then with the coolant being drained i set about changing the heater matrix feed hose a previous vac pump oil leak swelled the the rubber hose so ive taken a precaution before the trip to Germany so its right.

Then yesterday evening i set about giving the DTM a wash, and headed over to Extreme BHP’s meet at Blackpool for the season opener with a few like minded car guys !!

Last weekend i tackled a slight oil leak which turned out to be from the turbo oil drain gasket which was easier to just remove the turbo and give it a good clean and once over and renew the seals, so thats all been sorted out now and is leak free.

Also deleted the Diverter valve using the Bar-Tek blanking plate and harness extension to extend the DV down into the slam panel.

Now sounds like a Group B rally car ‘Wutututu’ lol and holds boost so much better through the rev range also

IMG 8942

Yesterday went and picked up my freshly painted bumper from Lawrence at Toxic paintworks in Blackburn he has some pretty cool looking Nissan Micra’s if you don’t know of him check them out on instagram @toxicpaintwork @thelifeoflawrence_

So today i set about getting it replaced and all fitted.

Got the lower grills all plastic welded in

So other weekend i run over the car with a clay bar and removed all i could then this weeks as the weather has been great and those longer nights are now here i set at going at the car with a orbital dewalt polisher and some 3 stage Menzerna.

IMG 9056

You'll be fine chap, I did the ring back in 2005 on my duke racebike with some mates it was awesome on a bike and will be in a car , the first time it can be a bit intimidating with all the regular out as well but just stay focused and you have a great time.
Best of luck chap and get some video action up on the forum. :icon thumright:
