When i first bought my car the front tyres were getting low, i decided to rotate them to the back and i had terrible droning noise from the tyres almost like a wheel bearing kind of grumble. It would get worse at certain speeds. I quickly swapped them back and the noise went away. I then got two new front fitted and the noise is back. The fronts are Eagle F1 3's and the backs are F1 2's, when i did the initial rotation they were all matching 2's. It sounds like its rubbing or something. I did come across a thread that mentioned they were a bit noisy, is it a manufacturing fault with the tyres or what?

I don't know if it can be classed as a "fault", it could just be that they generate a hell of a lot of noise when they have plenty of tread. are they directional pattern?
could be down to road surface, take a trip down the motorway where sometimes sections of the lane have been patched with a new surface, see if there's a difference?

I can only put it down to having more tread then the previous ones, i have done quite a few miles on them now and no change. I will have to check if they are directional or not. It's not to do with the road surface as it's always the same noise. You start to hear it around 30mph then as you get to 50-70mph it gets really bad. If i have to swap the tyres then so be it, but i don't want to pay out for another two tyres if it turns out to be something else.

I don't think S3 enjoy having their tyres rotated. I'm guessing it's to do with the Quattro system.
I had problems when I did it. The steering wheel would wobble around 80 mph. Replaced the tyres and had no further problems.

It will be the wear pattern on the tires - believe its called 'saw toothing' where the tires look more like a 50p as opposed to round
Yer when i first rotated them i swapped them back around and it was fine, but now these are brand new tyres so it shouldn't be making this level of noise.
I have looked into this and don't think it would apply to brand new tyres and generally happens only on dead axles.
