Would also like to mention things like virtual dash etc that you will fast get bored off and used to in my experience, the 5 cylinder note on the pre fl is not something you can get used to, it isn't like a song you just get bored of. You don't need to be WOT on the pre fl to appreciate how amazing it sounds, it sounds sublime on part throttle also.

Pops and bangs are another thing, everyone is going on about how they should just get a map to get them on the facelift engine but I have heard a facelift car with mapped in pops and bangs and it didn't sound good to me. It doesn't suit the aluminium block imo and should be left alone, sounds like a 4 cylinder with the pops and bangs. The iron block 5 cylinder suits pops and bangs really well due to the deeper note of the engine. Audi just got it right with that engine and the sports exhaust. If you think back at when the TTRS 8J came out it didn't sound anywhere near as good as the RS3 8V.
Re the virtual dash, did I see you've got rid of it and gone back to standard dials?

The only bang the old one made was when it failed to turn in, carried straight on and landed in a field. The new one turned the corner, made a ‘small fart’ and drove away into the sunset.
The end.........TX x

Hi all, I am really glad I found this thread. I actually came across it earlier today during some research, as I was about to start a new thread during a stop break on the way home from upgrading to a 2017 (67 plate) RS3. I previously had a 2016 model. I do think the new RS3 is stunning, I much prefer the overall look and the lighting, as I see inside the car all lights are white, no reds like the PFL. The Virtual Cockpit I do quite like, so was very pleased with my upgrade until I realised one huge issue, and this is the sound of the exhaust. It's just not the same now, the new one does not turn heads, my new RS3 is the exclusive purple colour, which does turn heads, but the noise was always one of my fav things, so I just don't understand why Audi made it so quiet?. If anything, I would have thought they'd have made it louder. I literally just emailed the dealer to ask them to double check if it did actually have the sports exhaust fitted as the noise is lacking so much I can't believe it. I note there is no dynamic pack now, but you can buy the exhaust and mag ride separately? So the previous owner apparently got the exhaust and no mag ride, not really felt much of a problem without the mag ride so far, also he got bits of the comfort pack and not all, which is so annoying as for only a couple hundred quid more he'd have had the reverse cam and advanced key! I am so gutted he didn't add that, anyway I digress - back to the new RS3, just wanted to confirm then as if you got the new one without the sports exhaust then it must be literally silent?. In mine, even with Dynamic mode on and in S, the sound is just not there, nor are there any pops if downshifting. In my PFL when I had Dynamic on and it was just sitting in neutral or park you could clearly hear it, then when in Dynamic and S it was so loud when it was stationary, but same settings on FL one and silent. Am I doing something wrong or is this 100% totally correct with the sports exhaust on the FL?. I wondered if I needed to fix some settings perhaps?. Sorry for the rant, I just can't believe it as if it had the PFL noise or louder it would have been my perfect car, but this lack of noise is not sitting well with me.

Also, 2 more things;

1) Does anyone else agree that the B & O soundsystem, in the FL version does not sound as good as the PFL version?.
2) I can't seem to get the parking plus to go full screen like the PFL - it just shows me a small section on the right?.

Many thanks :)

Just kick it in to dynamic after startup and that's all you'll ever need, whether in the left over to manual or in auto. Pfl is loud either way not sure about fl.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but in the FL if I have Dynamic on and turn car off, go back and turn on again then it will still be in Dynamic?. The PFL would always go back to auto so would always have to change it on start up, but FL remembers last setting even if it's Dynamic S?

Not so I am afraid - it may say Dynamic on the dash but it will be sitting in comfort. 4 presses of the magic button required every time I am afraid.

If you want someone to blame - point your finger at the EU.

It gets louder with time - it needs to coke up a bit.

The B&O sounds fine to me.

The parking is 1/5 screen - big enough for me anyways especially as I have the camera :).

ok good to know, mine has only done 5500 miles.

so is there now way I can make the parking system full screen, or am I stuck with the tiny 1/5 screen :( so gutted there is no cam lol

one thing I do love is I managed to turn off the volume increasing with speed - that was so annoying,

Unfortunately that is the way it now sounds. And at 5500 miles, I can't imagine it getting much louder. I am now getting some minor pops and crackles but they are not consistent. It does actually sound ok with the windows down but no, it's no where near as nice sounding as the PFL.

There is no machine gun effect anymore but you do get the occasional surprising howitzer completely at random it would seem - especially if you are being held up.

Start up still sounds good, and maybe when someone is driving behind us or when we over take and leave them for dust, surely they must hear something??!

As I just posted on another thread - after a drive with the windows & roof open I would imagine they have their fingers in their ears!

The rear camera is a disgrace both in its dimensions and in its clarity, the image is vertically quashed to accommodate the sensor graphics being displayed, my Mrs wee fiestas rear camera is miles better in every way,on the S3 the rear camera is optioned separately at £375 so not cheap ****** disgrace Audi

My RS3 is only a week old and it’s popping and farting all the time, especially on initial start-up and even better during downshifts in Sport & Dynamic mode, I do have the Sports exhaust though.
As for rear camera best one I have seen was on my 2014 Golf R, being hidden behind the VW badge prevented it getting gunned up with dirt, rain drops etc. The Audi camera I feel is very good although it does pick up road dirt each day, at the end of the day it’s only a driver assist for reversing, it’s not meant to be full CCTV.

It's still too small and warped for the price, there's no need for the graphics to be displayed either as the parking sensors are specifically for audible warnings, it is what it is though as for the engines l drove a ttrs Spyder just as they where introduced it didn't have any sports exhaust but it still popped and banged, but the new engine has a higher pitched tone to it..... and Sounds vaguely naturally aspirated again if you want your car to scream and shout out to the people well get a exhaust upgrade, or buy a RS3 with the pano-roof you'll hear the exhaust sounds far better with the roof tilted/opened

Hi rs369, first of all would love to know what colour purple rs you have as this colour seems to suit the rs perfectly?
Also if your car as the sports exhaust are the exhaust tips black or chrome?
Sorry if this sounds like I’m questioning your own cars knowledge but It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve read Audi selling a car with not all the options listed.
The FL sound really good as I’ve sat behind one in my own one so could just be a placebo effect.

I saw that on a face lift car I had recently while mine was being serviced re the small graphics for reversing (& forward - useful for garage) and I thought thought it was rubbish how small it was ... I assumed there would be a way to MAX it but it sounds not ???

Yes, the purple suits it so well - when I saw it I had to have it, as it has the lunar silver sport seats, black mirrors etc so looks awesome. The colour on my order sheet just says purple but it looks like that colour of the S3 pic Jassy posted. It's def an audi exclusive colour though.

It has the black tip exhaust, but I am still waiting for dealer to confirm it def has the sports exhaust lol.

To be fair, just been through a tunnel in mine with the windows fully down and it sounded like something akin to an old 80's F1 car. Bonkers.

I think the problem is that it doesn't quite feed through to the cabin with the windows up.

mines now sounds better than a PFL and that’s with the non sports exhaust. Just wait till I’m got my non resonated milltek.

If you want sound you just need to be willing to spend a bit more money.

I laughed out loud at this as I literally did the same thing last night. So I can confirm, if driving through a tunnel, foot down and in Dynamic S, the sound is phenomenal - at least as good as the PFL, and also when I was driving around the shops looking for a space, it sounded great - so at a slow crawling speed and through tunnels it sounds awesome - I would say it has RS6 or R8 notes. It's just at the 3500/4000 rpm no flaps open like the PFL so this is where it lacks for me, and of course the lack of pops is upsetting however I heard some random ones in my FL today which was nice. FL Dynamic S feels like PFL Comfort S or something like that, as the Dynamic S has very little increased revs when in idle.

In regards to the parking plus, when it appears small on the screen you can see a plus sign beside it, so I think if we could work out how to click the plus symbol it may expand?. I also love how the parking censors activate when going forward into a space.

It does'nt expand l am afraid to say....even VCDS cant solve this complaint either, the sensor graphic is far toooooo large,it doesnt have to be this size it could have overlayed on to the screen like this

I'm at 5000 ish now, and whilst I massively agree it does not sound like the PFL, mine pops and bangs and is 100% a head turner, so unless you live in a deaf community I'm unsure what's going on lol. I have scared people with the pops and always see people turning around, sometimes when i'm 50m or so away from them.
All in all despite the niggling issues, the only thing in my mind that lets the car down is Audi UK! because it is a proper car and an epic drive :D

I read somewhere that the newer RS cars are quieter because Audi are already producing cars with exhausts that comply with upcoming EU regulations on noise. Not sure why they've decided to do it so early, but this is the main reason why the 4 and 5 sound a bit muted apparently. There will no doubt be plenty of aftermarket options, there are some out for the 5 already.
