I heard from a friend in the motor trade that Audi are going to cease producing the 3 door S3, reasoning is that the Golf R will fulfill the market requirement.

I googled this info but could not see any related results.

I really hope this is duff info, has anyone heard similar news?

Yep, there was a thread on here about it a few weeks back. No more 3 door S3's.

Due to lack of demand apparently :(

I think the same thread talks about a fastback A5 style version will be introduced, would be good if that had a 2 door coupe version.

Yeah that would be some consolation, I have ordered a new 3 door S3 Nano Grey should be delivered on 4th Oct, I took the 5 year extended warranty option as i planned to keep it for some time so looks like they will hold good second hand value now.

Think there was a bit of a debate about that, if there's a big enough lack of demand to warrant Audi to stop producing them I don't think it'll make them hold/increase in value any more.

It seems that if you want a 3-door you will have to have a Golf instead. The current version 8 Golf seems to be better equipped than the current A3. Lets hope the new 2019 A3 will be a catch-up. The main reason I stay with Audi is that they still allow me to choose the specification and options that I want rather than someone a VW deciding for me.

As a 2014 manual 3dr S3 owner (2yrs warranty still to run) I am a little miffed but can't argue with Audi, so few 3drs are sold when compared to 5drs it would be hard for Audi middle management to justify to the board to keep making them.

I think the 5dr looks pants and my car only has me in 95% of the time so the 3dr is ideal. There seems to be a trend to reduce the number of 3dr fast hatches (e.g. S3/FRS/CTR/Megane) without getting towards the A5 size range which I think looks equally pants.....and yes already looked at an RS5. Audi won't be getting my money next time round other than maybe a manual RS1 if it ever appears. Maybe the VW groups plan is A1/Polo size for 3dr mid range cars?

From rumours I think the three door golf might not be made either when the MK8 comes along 2019/20

The new Polo, that has just been released is not available in three door guise, not even the GTI. :disappointed:

If this is true, its a sad sad day. The A3/S3 started its existance as a 3 door, and it's still the best looking IMO. Audi have lost their minds and put too much control in the hands of the marketer's.

See I think the opposite, I've always been a 3 door fan - this is only my 4th but 1st 5 door. I personally think the S3 looks better in Sportback trim but obviously we all have different opinions.

I don't have the latest figures but in 2015 Audi sold 19,231 3-door models compared 194,144 Sportback models. This includes all A3/s3 versions so it's quite obvious tooling up to make a 3-door version would be expensive to meet far less customers.

When the original A3 was introduced Audi UK did not want to import the Sportback version when it was released as they thought it would not be sporty enough and would not appeal to many purchasers. How wrong can you be!

I whole heartedly agree with you mate the sport back is the better looking of the hatches...... The 3 door looks a bit ungainly from some angles, the rear wings are too large and doing make the alloys look even smaller

I had also heard they were stopping the 3 door so I took the plunge yesterday and ordered S3 in Ara and delivery is due mid November.

From yesterday Audi factory will not accept any new orders for 3 door S3, as my new car arrived with a missing option that can only be installed at build. The dealer tried to re-order another car but the factory won't accept the order.

I just made it in the nick of time then. I would have been so gutted if I had waited even another week. Will make the arrival all the sweeter.

I hope the missing option doesn't dampen your enjoyment too much.

What did they miss?

I could not disagree more

Thanks, at the time of delivery i was disappointed, about the missing options that i choose, but i hadd the options too.
1. Not take the car at all & get my deposit back.
2. Take a new sportback in the options i choose with no additional cost with the full options i chose.
3. choose any 3 new door S3 i wanted from any Audi dealership i wanted in the UK.( not a S3 even close to my spec anywhere)
4. Or take the car i ordered with the missing options with a compensation payment.

I took the car i ordered with an agreed compensation payment, so yes i am disappointed but i agreed to what they offered me as it was that or a 5 door so i will not bad mouth the dealer as a deal is a deal! i want to say it was upwards of 4 K before anyone asks.

I probably would have done the same given the choices. Your car looks great in the profile pic.

Cheers, I am happy with it too. I can't quite believe how different the Facelift feels to drive than my 2015 S3, the new gearbox & extra gear is probably the most noticeable.

I got an email from Audi UK yesterday saying that my S3 has been built and is on its way from the plant to the ferry terminal. This makes it seem a bit more real and keeps my excitement levels up. Has come about a bit quicker than I thought, thankfully. I see on other threads though that cars can sit for ages at ports so hope that is not the case.
