So here goes,

I have had my B7 A4 Avant for 2.5 years now and have no trouble with it.
Last year I had the econ light on and off and it was not consistently on or off. It was an annoying fail. I took it in and they said it was the high pressure switch, it got replace £220 later, this was around the Jan time this year. This didn't solve the problem. I took it back in and he said it could be wiring but could find any other faults, also it worked for the time he had it (annoying).
I then too it upon myself and ordered a new inner climate unit and it seemed to solve the problem completely and I was over joyed as it cost me £40 off ebay.

Recently the intermittent fault has come back, it seems to have happened when the temperature has dropped outside and maybe the weather has got more humid. Very annoying as now the inside of the car steams up quickly.
I can hear the compressor powering up and down again intermittently and then sometime just stays on.

It hasn't had a full flush and regas yet I have just put gas in to top it up every now and then.

Any advise please?

Its unlikely gassing will fix this, as that's a byproduct of turning aircon on, something is triggering the aircon mode, so you need to look at wiring, compressor although compressor gets a signal on/off unless this is shorting somehow.

As you've fitted another climate, its highly unlikely related to this.

Check for any corrosion on plugs.

Brilliant thanks, I am new to the air con system and haven’t really messed about with it. You could point me in the right direction could you please. Specifically for the wiring diagram or something similar please?
