Chaps/ladies,

I'm having trouble trying to update my Audi maps - after intense Googling it looks like there should be an option on MyAudi.com under Audi Connect Services called 'Map Update', where you can download the maps via a Java applet. I don't seem to have this option. Likewise, I read the MMI prompts when an update is available, but again nothing here.

Any ideas/tips/links to where I can download the maps? Bought my B9 in October 2016 but I suspect it hasn't been updated since its registration in March 2016.

Thanks for your help!

Dont know anything about `Java Applet` but this is the way I did it...

To update the maps:

With the 3 year 'free' deal, the data to provide the map update comes from that. So, do the following.

Press Menu
Go to Audi Connect
Go to Software update
Tick the empty box for the map update even if it says zero MB (Was offered `England South` and a list of other countries. Added `England North`)
Press Continue (or whatever it says to start the update)

I needed to switch the car off when prompted to park for the update to take effect.

Best of luck.

Is your sat nav sd based or the mmi plus version?

Thanks guys for your replies.

I had another play about and did find a Map Update option - when I selected it I then had to choose a media (only Data connection - SD1, SD2 were greyed out) however upon pressing it, it gave a message saying something along the lines of 'File media format not valid':disappointed:

I have an Audi SD card in slot 1 labelled Europe so suspect it is SD based...

If it is SD based then you can't update the maps in this way. The only option is to purchase a new SD card with the latest maps but it will cost ££££s

Yup, you cannot update the map and will need to purchase a new SD Nav card at a cost of over £400 including Audi to activate it. Cheaper to buy a TomTom

Or better still just use the built in Sat Nav on your smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the MMI, that's what we've done now our Audi SD based is now over a year old, to be honest actually prefer the one on iPhone 7 to Audi's anyway.

This could be a stupid question, but do you need to update the maps? I'm still using the original CD based satnav that came with my B7.......10 years ago!

Sure, there's the odd weird road layout and missing streets in new developments, but by and large it does the job. For the odd occasion the actual address can't be found, I'd rather just get close and look at google maps on the phone than pay £400 odd for some extra streets.

Wow, I never knew this - what a rip off - I certainly won't be paying for any update! I do often use Apple CarPlay but the reason I would like the stock maps up to date is because I live in a new build area where the road layouts have changed pretty significantly recently. I'm going to contact my dealer as they never mentioned having to pay for the updates.

When using CarPlay are you restricted to just Apple Maps? Or is there a way to use Waze?

Not sure as I don't use Waze, I've used Apples built in Maps (which the interface is much better than Audi's) and have also used Navigon fine that way, so I'd assume that Waze should work but cannot be 100% certain as don't currently use it, I can download and test at the weekend (my better half is in the Audi today).

Yeah, Audi have been shocking in their communication on this. It's so bad, my local dealer didn't know what the procedure was when asked and Audi Customer care also took several attempts at answering this too. £400 for a map update is quite ridiculous, the salesperson never told me that there was a cost for map updates either.
