Hi all,

This is my first post so take it easy :) Im on the Isle of Man and just purchased an 09 (facelift) S3 S tronic.

The problem :
Im getting error 00448 Haldex clutch pump (V181) error when scanning the car with iphone Carista app. No lights on dash weirdly.

What i've tried :
- Clearing the code.... it just comes back again after a short drive
- Cleaning the filter on the haldex pump itself ( small amount of goo on there, nothing major)
- Testing the pump outside of the car e.g hooking it up to 12v ... works perfectly every time
- Full fluid change and terminals cleaned.

What id like to know :
A very specific question but how is the haldex pump monitored by the car? E.g how does the car know there is a problem with it? .. Resistance, pressure of fluid, pump voltage levels?

From my testing all looks good but the car thinks otherwise :(

I would be super grateful of any replies to this one. I know its a super specific problem but i'd really like to repair this rather than just replace the pump ( there not cheap lol).

Is there a description with the fault?
Likely circuit load-monitoring .

Thanks for the reply... unfortunately not, i think only VCDS provides the extra description :( , i have tested the pump resistance and from what i read online a good pump will read between 5-8ohms. Mines reading 50 ohms so looks like resistance may be the problem in my case.

I may have to replace the pump after all. Looks cheaper than i initially thought. Aprox 170ish new. I will update this thread if i do :)

The other question is with the pump throwing an error is the car running in 2wd or 4wd?

Would be super handy if anyone knows ?

I found the answer to this , posting it here for future readers ... "Without the clutch pump functioning, rear wheels are given NO torque, they just spin freely."

I've had same problem and afraid u need a new pump. Change the filter at the same time (about £50).

Car will only be FWD while you have this fault. You can clear fault but it will error as soon as the haldex clutch engages trying to put power to rear. Won't do any harm but spoils your wet weather fun ;)

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad its not only me then ! ... 250£ later and a new pump and filter is on the way. Its super annoying how it needs the special tool to remove the filter ! 0.0

Hopefully the new pump, filter and oil will restore its awesomeness !!

I got around buying the tool. Can't remember what I used but the filter on mine was a ****** to get out once the top was off. Gets jammed right in.

About 3 months after replacing my pump i started getting another haldex error pointing to the haldex controller that costs over £1k on a gen 4. Luckily I stripped it down, cleaned out a little corrosion and released it. Done over 8 k since and been fine!

Easiest way of getting the filter out is to turn the ignition once you've got the filter housing off and the pressure that the pump generates then pushes the filter out and you can pull it out then
