Was wondering how my setting preferences compare to others... care to share your normal settings?

Have only had my car two days but the set up is much the same as yours.

To be honest I've only had it in individual for about 5 mins as I'm being gentle with it until I get some K's up. Plus living in central Melbourne doesn't encourage spirited driving.

The only difference is that I've put quattro in dynamic too. Now I think that is supposed to put more drive to the rear. To be fair while I can feel the extra weight on the steering and the extra urge and sound from the motor/gearbox I've not driven the car enough to feel what impact quattro in dynamic might have.

I've set the * button on the steering wheel to access the driver mode rather than the toggle switch on the dash.

Engine/Gearbox in auto, suspension in auto, ballance in dynamic. Put Stronic in S manual mode when I desire better throttle, engine mapping and me controlling the transmission shifts.

In individual I have everything to auto excpet the engine sound, I tend to keep it in dynamic now though.

Never switch from the following dynamic settings

Engine = Dynamic
Steering = Comfort
Engine sound = Comfort

Car is always in individual and everything is set to dynamic apart from the steering which is left in comfort, not a fan of the artificially heavy steering when its set to dynamic.

I drive predominantly in Dynamic switching between S and D using the gear stick, however in Individual I have it all in Dynamic except Suspension which is in comfort. This is to change for villages around me which have speed bumps.

VAG do a good job of the Individual mode. Genuinely lets you mix-and-match. More so than BMW, an owner told me... I forget exactly how though.

Only complaints:
  • Would be great to have two Individual modes for switching between different custom configs while on the road.
  • "Dynamic" steering is still a bit light for my taste; weirdly much lighter than our Golf VII set to the equivalent sport/dynamic mode on its optional 225x40 R18s.

I'm not a fan of the dynamic steering system, but leave it in auto mode for my individual setting as it's the least offensive of the three. I would far prefer to have had the option to delete the dynamic steering system at order though. I tried an A3 with standard steering and it was a delight. It was communicative, direct, had just enough feel, and made the more advanced system in the S3 feel like the dead tiller on a canal boat.

I like the feel of Quattro in dynamic mode when pressing on, but when maneuvering or in traffic it feels very clunky, so I switch between modes to counter this. The engine in dynamic is similarly better suited to fast road use, as in traffic the throttle mapping goes from idle to what feels like 30% by moving your toe by a hairs breadth.

The noise I'm happy to leave alone, and suspension is usually in auto. Dynamic on magride is noticeably firmer, but I get the distinct impression it's probably adding nothing to the party in terms of speed. Auto mode works well, and comfort is fine on motorways, but hopeless on speed bumps. I swap my own cogs, so no need for a computer to try to second guess what gear I'd like next and how soon, it'd invariably get it wrong anyway.

Everything dynamic with exception of suspension which is set to auto.
Figure I will get a better answer in here than Google... What does Suspension set to Auto actually do? What causes changes to occur to the mag ride?

Im not normally shy of writing an in depth explanation, but in this case you are better off going to google, or better, YouTube.

Search 'magnetorheological damper' and all will be (slightly) clearer.

Once you understand the how's and whys, google DSC suspension control and marvel at the 'what if's', coming to the S3 aftermarket soon(ish)

I understand the technology, but haven't really found anything that explains what the "auto" setting specifically does when set in Individual mode....

It's a misnomer. All the settings are "automatic', making changes to bump and rebound damping on the fly, but the 'comfort-auto-dynamic' settings determines which of the overall control strategies are in use at the time, comfort being softest, through a medium setting at auto, to dynamic being the firmest setting.

I must ask, why the Quattro in auto? All that does is gives you the 4wd traction later than it would in dynamic.

I have the following:

Engine/Gearbox: Dynamic
Suspension: Comfort
Steering: Comfort/Auto
Quattro: Dynamic
Engine Sound: Dynamic

Although I've discovered full dynamic mode is more usable than I originally anticipated and if I'm really 'on it' I go for full dynamic now.

Adjusts based on conditions/driving. I find running the suspension in dynamic all the time is too overly stiff for the conditions of the roads around here, so auto seems to be a good compromise.

There's advantages, and disadvantages to having the rear axle coupled up much tighter than in auto/comfort modes.

Yes, you'll have greater traction more of the time, as the coupling is ramping tourque transfer up faster and to higher levels without reacting to any detected slip, but you'll trade that for more sensations of driveline shunt, a little more in the way of various clunks when manoeuvring, more tyre wear, and more fuel use.

The Haldex coupling is transferring torque the vast majority of the time in any mode though, and it'll always react to slip if you need more.

Interesting view on it, maybe I will experiment a little more with it. I need to get the car on some proper driving roads.

I think the steering weight in Dynamic is almost approaching what I am used to (coming from an S3 8P). But Dynamic is still lighter, and much lighter than our Golf 6R.

Everything is just over assisted these days, along with taking away a massive amount of "feel".

My individual = dynamic engine sound off = very nice, without that option the car would have been replaced a long time ago.

I do sometimes drive in dynamic until I find the fake engine sound irritating.

Comfort when the potholes are getting to me !

on my 2014 car i only have
engine/gearbox
suspension control
steering
engine sound

not showing the quattro is that because you have newer cars?
