Tyres - What brand and why you like them?

Just interested to see what other folk are running on their Avants. 255/35/19 reccomendations or opinions please.
I'm currently on Kumho Ecsta Le Sport but wondering g if it's worth the extra pennies for something a bit more expensive. Personally I've always found them to be ok - very grippy, bit noisy but that's because they're very grippy! I've never had anything else since I've had an A6 so nothing to compare them to that's actually relevant.
 
Noise doesn't come from the grip the tyres produce. Slick tyres are very quiet but produce the most grip. Most of the noise from a tyre comes from air being compressed in the grooves of the tyre and being forced out creating a roaring sound. Design of the tread pattern and tyre construction can very much reduce this.
The Kumho is about the cheapest mid range tyre.

I really rate the Goodyear Eagle Assy 3 . Great traction, grip and low noise. Only 1 issue with this tyre and thats the rim protection is not that good , especially compared to the Assy 2 that it replaced.

If you want the best handling/ grip etc the pilot sport 4 from Michelin is the way to go.
 
I'll stand corrected, that's some good tyre knowledge!

How is the rim protection on the Pilot 4? My wife's parking is sketchy at best in the Audi as she usually drives a mini with 16" wheels and big tyres!

I've just fitted a full set of Kumhos and I'm very impressed with them. I find them very quiet in comparison to the Pirelli P Zero Rossos that came off. I'm also hoping that they last longer too.
 
Fulda sportcontrol are decent, great grip in the dry or wet, relatively unknown in the UK but pretty big in Germany

That's good as the Pirellis were on the car when I got it and were almost new. I do around 12,000 miles a year and run winter tyres in the winter. The Pirellis were worn out at the end of last year and had to be replaced (all 4), so I guess I'd done less than 10,000 miles on them :rage:
 
The Kumho is an OK tyre compared to a lot of the cheap Chinese ditch finders. But against more upmarket tyres it's let down.

My 3.0 quattro Lemans had a full set of brand new Landsail 255/35 19 the day before I bought it and last year I swapped front to rear to even the wear and I just had an advisory for all 4 on my mot. Considering they have covered 16k and have no shoulder wear I cant rate them high enough. Some people like em some don't but the ones that don't are usually my mates that run soft Michelins or Pirellis on there cars and end up replacing them two or even three fold to my one. I find them great and have just found a deal from a supplier north from me that has 4 new fitted at 300 notes. if it means 18 months of driving and 16k then I will definitely be taking the trip to get them fitted again. The grip is great in all weathers and for the runs I do I cant grumble.
 
Have Kumho Ecsta Le Sport on my Avant, really like the way they feel and grip..was previously on on Yokohama's, great traction in the dry but iffy in the wet!
 
265/35/19 - currently on ContiSport 3's- very noisy tyre. Will be moving to Pilot 4S's very shortly.

I wouldnt trust cheap chinese ***** tyres on a car of mine.

Which are you referring to as cheap Chinese? ..the Kumhos?

I've got Avon ZZ5's on my A4 Avant swapped over from Dunlop and found them to be great and reasonable price.

I like the Michelin primacy 3 Green X - original fit tyre from Audi and very quiet and confident handling
 
I would have said Michelin Pilot Sport 3 a few months ago, but just fitted some Michelin Pilot Sport 4's all round which are even better.

Really good just make sure you go for the XL's, I do for all tyres :happy:

Me too :yahoo: haven't really broke them in yet though and my car has a bit of a boost leak at the mo' so I haven't been able to truly put them through their paces but so far so good.
 
hi,
running pirelli p zero rosso 255/35/19XL all round, good grip,good in th wet but wear quite fast. tried Michelin pilots on the front, but wear rate was the same.
 
Bought the car August 2015 with 75k and 4 of Continental ContiSport Contact 3. Now with nearly 95k on the clock, the rear ones still good nick. Front ones has become bold quite fast but it was due to wheel misalignment.
Now front runs on Minerva's. Tyre from low/mid range but good grip and hard wearing.
 
i used to have P Zero Rossos on my C6... switched to Dunlop Sport Maxx, they weren't as grippy but lasted longer - if you are running quattro you've gotta be giving it some stick to run out of grip anyway
 
Continental contisportcontact 5P 255/35/19 are way better than anything I had before. Driving in Uk where's a lot of rain it's not a pain anymore. If I was about to buy new set I would probably go for the same ones or pilots 3 from Michelin .

Had Conti sports on mine.
Had to replace the rears due to punctures. Bought 2 landsails for £150 fitted after suggestions and road tests beating more expensive brand's.
Cannot rate them yet because I have Quattro drive and having two different makes front to rear, it's killed the handling.
 
I've done 29k on Goodyear Eagle F1's, and still have 4-5mm left (measured). They have lasted longer than the Michelin PS3's that were on previously.
