Hey guys I am actively looking to replace my Audi s3 8l 1999 pre facelift HU with an aftermarket as I am looking for more functionality. I have a concert audio system with an amplifier at the back but I am not sure if it's an active or passive subwoofer. Could you guys let me how you think this is powered and how will it be possible to power with an aftermarket unit?

I saw a guy do a project on his vehicle with a tablet head unit and only using a 2 channel amp and powering all 4 speakers he had in his car which also news to me as I though you needed 1 channel per speaker plus in my case a 5th for my subwoofer unless the power is shared.

Connects 2 supply a wide range of harness adaptors, car audio direct are stockists and pretty helpful. Strictly speaking you only need 2 channels for stereo but I think most aftermarket HUs are at least 4 channel these days.

Yes I understand but my question is if my subwoofer is active or if it need amplification, and also how does it get connected to the head unit?

Hi, I'm not too sure if this is what your on about but you need a wiring loom with a red plug on it (aftermarket) and this will allow the original audi wiring loom to still power up the original amp in the car through your new head unit, so for example my car is a 2003 a3 1.8t and it's half amped (amped rears only) the red plug on the aftermarket loom keeps them rears amped through my aftermarket head unit, hopefully this will help.
